Android Unlocked/Unlockable Phone

looking for an android phone - either unlocked or unlockable.

has to be new (it's for my mother in law - she has a 6 year old samsung clam shell).

doesn't have to be running 2.4 or even capable of running 2.4.

just needs 3.5ish inch screen. reasonable capacitive screen. 3+ days battery life(she's not a heavy mobile user) .

the optimus spirit is sold out at coles. something similar in price to that is great. (was speaking to coles supermarket today and the store said they were getting similar spec'd phones at the same price to replace all the soldout phones)

Or if any one has one for sale.

thanks

    Hi
If you are in Melbourne I may be able to give you a lead on where the LG is still available.
    Cheers

  • At my local Coles (in WA), the LG Optimus Spirit Telstra special sold out in the first week and staff at the Service Desk had no idea when or whether they were getting more. Stock was replenished within a week however, which was when I bought mine. The special runs until the end of this month, so I'd imagine there might still be a further replenishment cycle for either that model or an equivalent. It's an excellent phone, unlocking was cheap and easy via eBay and call quality is noticeably better than my 6 year old Samsung clamshell. Unfortunately, it will not achieve the battery life that you nominate - only 1.5 days maximum, in my experience. I am not a heavy user at all and switch it off overnight.

  • You may be interested in a $15 plan with Crazy Johns on a LG Optimus 2X with 4" screen , android 2.3, HDMI output to tv, HD vedio recording, 1.2gb dual core cpu, GPS as well. Worth checking it out if you are still looking for a new phone.

Most Android phones need charging by the end of the 2nd day.

My SGS2 running a 1800mah battery goes flat by the 2nd night, even with little use of 3G data and phone calls.

2.4? Is that Ginger Ice Cream?

LG Optimus One is a great budget smart phone IMHO. At only $99 outright/prepaid its a budget(on Virgin prepaid, just call them and say you need to unlock for overseas travel). Check local Kmart/BigW stores for them.

Or else look on eBay, there are many deals out there. If you dont mind the hassle if warranty is needed. Also, have you considered post paid plans, it may be worth it in the long run.

    Android:
    2.3 Gingerbread

    3.0 Honeycomb (exclusive to tablets)

    4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

    Just to clarify.
