Thefork - Account Suspended 7 Days after The Initial and Only Booking

Just received this email 7 days after I made and completed my first (and only) booking placed using their web interface with a random referral code from OzBargain:

Dear user,

We inform you that we have found that you have made improper use of our booking service, to accumulate loyalty points in your account.

In section 5 of our terms of use, which you can view at https://www.thefork.com/legal, we declare the following: «[Furthermore, failure by Users to comply with these Terms of Use (including failure to honour several reservations (no-shows), any abuse or fraudulent use of TheFork Site and/or Yums, or any behaviour prejudicial to the interests of La Fourchette may result in the deactivation of the User's account and/or the immediate deletion of all or part of the Yums stored in the loyalty space of the User's account on TheFork Site, without prior notice or compensation.]

Therefore, and in accordance with article 4.7 of Title 1 of our Terms of Use The Fork, we inform you that we have deactivated your TheFork account.

Regards,

Quality Team TheFork

Like, WTF? I only had 1000 yums from using the referral code so it's okay, not really feeling like a loss, but this service feels really scammy to me. Be ware if you plan to invest your time into this app.

Surprise, loyalty programs only exist to benefit the vendor, not the consumer.

    • True that.

    what the fork? that's ridiculous

  • email them for more info

    • sorry for any inconvenience

  • do stay away from their referral program. it's a minefield to trap new customer to get extra yum credits. I had total legit referral for another member but it's account not able to use at all after.

best just open fresh on everything. phone + email. Then take advantage of 1000 yums booking just visit some random cafes or whatever even just buy a coffee or drink. promo come often and they can't stop you do that.

don't even bother contact The fork customer service.

they don't take any responsibility any fault come up with your booking. we contact them about a 'no show' error issue once when even the restaurant confirm our booking or expired yums during covid where no way for us to redeem. they took no action and told us bear responsibility for difficult covid period.

    • I didn't bother to check in-depth, but it could be that their T&Cs do demand end users to not publicly sharing their referral codes to non-friends. I do remember seeing somewhere that OzBargain removed the random referral code section for some service (forgot which) following complaints from the service provider.

      • Checked their T&Cs and there was nothing like that there.

  • Searched a bit just now, seems like I am not the only one encountering this issue: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/thefork

  • Did they tell you to get forked?

    • Yep, hopped onto their live chat and that's what they are telling me right now.
