Monitor Recommendations for M1 MacBook Pro for Programming Use

Hey everyone!

I'm in the market for a decent monitor to be used with a M1 MacBook pro. Usage is for programming.

Do you guys have any suggestions in mind that's around $500 or less?

I'm eyeing the Dell S2722QC but I've read that it's old and there might be better options available given it's current price ($456).

I guess my goal is to get the best value for my budget. I'm not particular about the size or resolution.
Given that, what monitor should I buy?

Thanks in advance!

  • haven't used it but these specs look pretty good

    • This looks promising. I like the reviews as well. Adding this to the list, thanks!

  • I run a Dell 2721QS with my 14” M1 Pro and I’m very happy with the combo! My previous setup was a 27” iMac with a 5K screen, so in comparison the 5K screen will always win but in saying that the Dell is a very close second place and definitely far better value for the money!

    • That's great to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  • I bought an LG 34in Ultrawide last year from Aldi that was $349. Stock has probably gone by now.
I also have an Acer 31.5in curved as well.

  • I paid $440 for a Dell P2723QE on the Dell Refurb Store before Xmas.

Very similar (identical) display, but has USB Hub, ethernet and USB-C power.

Which I find very useful. Just plugging in one cable is great!

    • Good deal! I checked and it's $679 in the refurb store.

  • If you are not worried about size or resolution I would get the monitor that supports the highest refresh rate.

Personally I find it strange that size or resolution is not an issue for you because this affects how much readable text you can view on the screen and the clarity of it. This impacts workflow and eyestrain.

There is an issue with using a 4K monitor with a low spec M1 Mac however for programming it shouldn't be an issue.
