Applying for Family Sponsor Visa

My wife and I would like to know if it's OK to apply for a family sponsor visa for her niece using her own immi account? Or does her niece need to make her own immi account to apply and then authorize us to receive information on her behalf?

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/who-can-help-wi…

Since my wife will be the sponsor I thought she would be able to apply for the visa but I can't get a clear answer. Has anyone here had any experience in doing so?

Also, will I say in the application that I am her niece's uncle? We are not related by blood, only through marriage.

Thanks.

Probably best to go through an agency as they tend to get these things done correctly.

Yes, we used an agency for our partner visa. Still had heaps of work to do. Learn't a lot about what to do when we did that. We applied for a tourist visa successfully for my wife on our own. I was able to sit with her and help her do it. We would prefer to save the money on a migration agent and do it ourselves.

Sounds like you're an old hand at this.

    • Sorry I just have to laugh at this comment…I heard so many horror stories from friends.

      • They probably had shit agents. I had a great, very reputable one recommended by a friend. Unless you are a self-proclaimed expert like the OP here, why would you risk something that's literally life changing?

You already said it yourself. It is a gamble who would you like to trust your "life changing decision" with. Unless an agent had very high recommendations from friends, any agent that OP found on Google is a gamble.

Honestly, if it is a straight forward case (you are not expecting any headwinds) and you can follow basic instructions (IMMI literally listed out the Subclass 600 step by step for example), I dont see why it cant be attempted by OP. And IMMI stated an exempt person who can receive information on behalf of the applicant is close family members.

  • My friend applied using his immi for his family members but gave their contact details and they got the visa

You can apply using your immi account and sponsor her as tourist. Its not too difficult just need 30 mins of your time and few documents.

  • We have done this twice for both my inlaws. my partner used her immi account for both.

the processing time at the moment is very quick - our last one was approved this month, submitted in November-22

From a migration lawyers perspective the answer is: "Google migration lawyer and ask them."

    • And hand over way too much $$$
