    • Didn’t even think this was possible. Not going to stop me but can see how it would for others

    • I've had no issue myself, but I used the cards pretty quickly.

  • Super annoying that only NSW and ACT residents benefit from this.

As for all the comments about peoples' cards getting compromised, I've lost count of the number of MC gift cards I've purchased from Coles. Probably pushing 60+ by now. None of the cards were affected, even those activated and left for months before using. Maybe I was just lucky.

    • Well keep buying and one day you will learn what mental stress one goes through when someone hack their cash earned after hard work… !

  • +1

Here we go again. I have just used my last card from this deal yesterday and looks like i will be getting more of these again

    • +2

So… not only can you travel to the future to take advantage of deals that haven’t happened yet, but you can then also travel to the past to use the deals you have previously secured in the future. It’s an incredible strategy, but I can’t help but think a genius like you should be doing better things with their time than buying discounted gift cards

      • +1

i might be a genius but i am a immature genius

  • Can we add these to shopback?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • Why people whinging it about not able to buy in VIC or SA or WA or QLD?

Don't you all know we in Sydney pay premium to live in city so there is dire need to support those burdened most by inflation than those living in states with cheap house, lower electricity, lower car insurance cost, lower rents etc etc etc … :) :D

    • State restriction indicates that the supplier has considered stock level issue. In other words, I think there should be plenty for the first three days at least.

    • Consider the city of Albury-Wodonga. One side of the city stocks the cards, while the other can't. Why? Because. Now that's totally logical.

      • well for logic, one need to find the person who decided to keep two town within walking distance in two states in my opinion… !

  • Can we use the coles mastercard giftcard to purchase these?

    • +2

      I don’t think so.

It worked for me during the first couple of days of the last 10% off Vanilla Visa gift card deal, but someone messaged me on the last day of that deal saying that they tried themselves and got an Invalid Product Mix error.

I’m not sure what the situation is now!

  • So do that mean if I use the purchased prepaid Visa to pay for another that would equal to 20% ?

    • +1

      Nope.

      Two problems with this statement:

      1. You forgot to account for the purchase fee. If you purchase a $250 Vanilla Visa gift card during this deal, you will only pay $231.75, which equates to a 7.3% discount. If you theoretically used that gift card to purchase another $250 Vanilla Visa gift card, the discount on the newly purchased card would actually be 14.07%.

      2. I suspect you cannot use a Vanilla Visa gift card to directly purchase another Vanilla Visa gift card at Coles. I vaguely remember someone telling me during the September 2022 deal on Vanilla Visa gift cards that they got an Invalid Product Mix error when they tried to do this, which means that Coles rejects the card without even contacting the card issuer. Even if you do not trigger this error, the next issue is that it will be up to the staff member whether to approve the use of a Vanilla Visa gift card, as the only authorisation method available for Vanilla Visa gift cards is signature verification, and Coles actually gets the customer to physically sign a slip of paper. If staff follow the correct process, they have to look at the signature on the back of the card and compare it with the one on the slip of paper (and some staff even compare both with the signature on your ID as well).

When these have been offered previously, it has been very difficult to find them at Coles stores. Very few actually put the $250 denominations on the shelf with all the other gift cards; instead hoarding them at the Service Counter. My local store claimed, by lunch time on the first (Wed) day, that they were out.

There is a way around Woolworths not accepting these cards to purchase, on-line, their Wish Cards. What you do is to first load the Prepaid Vanilla Gift Card onto your PayPal account as an additional selectable card. Then, pay Woolies for your new Wish Card via Paypal. The same procedure can be used for other sites that don't take the cards directly (which does not occur often, but does occur).

A big negative of using these cards can be if you receive, often well after making a purchase, a refund for something faulty or something not supplied via eBay etc. The refund is made to your Vanilla Card which you have probably fully used and then thrown away! You end up loosing that money.

    • I only use these cards for purchases in store, so I know that a refund if made will be made to a card of my choosing later, or I won't be returning said item at all.

      • @t25 Depends on staff member at store. Some check to make sure the last 4 digits match. Several Big W and Kmart in Perth do this. Coles and Woolworths seem more relaxed recently.

    • you forgot to mention big negative about hacking so people can lose 100% of money until if any get refunded as long as they remember card number, purchase receipt etc. etc. … !

    • I hang onto them for a few months.

Weren’t a bunch of these hacked recently? Not worth the fuss and worry

  • When will it be vic’s turn ??

Does anyone know if there is a way to pay my car insurance to NRMA using these cards? (can I split the payment for example say $250 portions)
    Thank you😊

    • +1

Yea also looking to confirm if we can and how to use multiple gift cards for single payment ?
Like if i have 300$ payment how can i use multiple gift cards to pay ?

      • same question :) by any chance is there a way to load money (from the gift card) to PayPal and do the payment from the paypal balance rather than selecting the gift card from the paypal account at the time of payment?

    • +1

I called and asked NRMA last year to use the coles GC and their systems won’t allow split payments - both instore and phone payments.

Tried at post office and no luck either.

      • Thanks for the info mate :)

    • +1

You can go to an Australia Post Shop or LPO to pay for your NRMA insurance renewal using multiple Visa cards.

You will need to tell the staff member that you would like to use multiple Visa cards to pay for your renewal, and you will need to show them the Post Billpay barcode on the renewal notice so they can scan it.

For NRMA insurance renewals, whether you can actually use multiple Visa cards (particularly multiple Visa cards that only support signature verification) is solely dependent on whether the staff member knows how handle split payments (and is also willing to do that).

I did that myself late last year.

Thanks mate, it is really helpful

    • You can do postbill pay online and it will let you do it in chunks.

      • Thanks for the reply. Could you please tell more about how to do it? When I goto do the payment via nrma website it only has the option to pay via card or pay via paypal. Thanks

        • +2

Have they sent you renewal documents via email. My NRMA car and home and contents insurance both have post bill pay details on them.

Using the details on the invoice you would do it online here https://paypaperbills.postbillpay.com.au/postbillpay/pay/def…

          • @Slo20: Thanks mate. Sorry for the dumb question. So if we pay in small amounts multiple times, does NRMA combine them at their end?

            Thank you

            • +1

              @Techefy: Yep that’s exactly what happens… and it’s not a dumb question.

      • I tried this morning and didn't work for me

        • I’m no longer with NRMA so can’t test but billpay still works. You don’t enter same details as you would for bpay. Th details relate to those under the barcode. The easiest way to do it though is download the auspost app because that lets you scan the barcode and will populate the correct details.

Just noticed in the title - Mayvers Peanut Butter $2.90 @ Coles

    • +1

It's been hijacked by the GC.

    • +3

Does anyone know if the ATO accept peanut butter as payment? If so, how much is the surcharge?

  • Has anyone used these gift cards to topup revolut accounts? does that work?

    Thank you

    • Haven't tried this particular card, but other prepaid cards are blocked.

      • Thanks mate

"Vanilla Visa Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase any other gift card sold at Coles"

Can they be used to purchase any other gift card at say… Woolies?

  • -1

Can these be used at Harvey Norman?

    • Friends don't let friends shop at Harvey Norman

      • Friends don't let friends buy visa cards that don't have a pin

      • So thats a…yes..friend?

  • Any issues using these to buy gift cards from jb hifi or shopback gift cards? cheers

    • Last time shopback rejected use of this card to purchase discounted gift cards… !

Majority systems getting smart to block this gift cards.. !

Silly question but just wanted to check if Vanilla MasterCards be added in Google wallet?

    • No

  • -1

Great deal … saving over 7% … Thanks for sharing!

  • Anyone know if you can pay NSW office of state revenue bills? land tax? with these cards.

    • The answer is top of Page 1.

  • Can I pay off a credit card balance with these?

    • lol ?? have you ever tried paying your one credit card bill with another and what happened there ?

      • ah - this counts as a credit card? I thought it might have been a pre-paid debit card

        • most people will buy this using their credit card and basically if they can then they would and i would do that as well pay their credit card bill which means we got free money (7% of whatever amount we buy)… ! actually i will not just my due on current credit card but pay above that limit so i am in surplus to use it for any damm thing … !

now good if it works but my logic says it shouldn't in my opinion.

    • You certainly can but there is no direct way and I don't think you are getting any on an open forum.

  • Sad unobtainable again :(

  • +1

So what happened here? Did the OP post prematurely based on unverified information or are they just trying to mess with our heads?

    • +1

      I don’t think so.

The promo was advertised in a publically-available Coles catalogue early on Monday, but the promo was pulled by 5pm on the same day (as outlined here).

  • +1

Just went to coles and they cancelled promo

    • +1

Thanks for the update. My apologies to the OP for the inference in my earlier post that they may have been messing with our heads.

  • when will be these 10% off card coming to VIC? been waiting for long since last Vanilla card deal in Sep 2022 :(

    • I'm beginning to think the party is over. Lately I've had to pay my bills using a normal credit card, the first time in years.
