Which Sub $100 Car Jump Starter?

Would like to keep a jump starter in the car and have been looking at the Lithium Battery Jumpers available. My car is a 3L 4 Cylinder, would like ability to start a V6. Any tips on what to look for and what to avoid? Also thoughts on this one? Amazon reviews are positive. https://www.amazon.com.au/AUTOGEN-Starter-Portable-Lithium-W… $99.91

    My car is a 3L 4 Cylinder

    Diesel Hi-Ace?

    • Nice guess!

      • Easy guess. Not many regular vehicles with that cylinder vs capacity arrangement.

    The gooloo one has been pretty good for me, jumpstarted an xtrial, a Navara and a crv successfully also can be battery bank and a torch if you’re desperate

      I second that. Just remember you have to press the button, to send a 'surge' when jumpstarting.

  • Yes, I have also found the gooloo pretty good. The smaller ones easily start bigger engines. I had one that stopped recharging after 12 months and they immediately sent a replacement.

  • Does a diesel need more power to jump start than a petrol?

    • My 1960's Fordson diesel tractor says yes.

      • So if you’ve got a diesel you’ll need a higher power one than for a 4cyl.

        • Diesel motors will require more power to start than a petrol motor. OP is looking for 6 cylinder minimum starting power so should be good to go with that.

          • @Muzeeb: I have a Hyundai i30 1.6 Diesel, and I have also used the Gooloo on a 3.9L Commodore. This was the one I purchased.

              @BewareOfThe Dog:

              3.9L Commodore

              What is this rare beast you speak of?

              • @Muzeeb: I may have gotten the litres wrong but it was @ that area 3.8 maybe (my Falcon was 3.9, I think?), and expensive to run.

                • @BewareOfThe Dog: 3.8 was the Ecotec - VS VT VX VY
                  3.6 is the Rattletec - VZ VE VF

                  3.9 was a very early Ford motor I think
                  4.0 was the popular Barra inline 6 falcon engine

                @Muzeeb: A 3.9L is just a very worn out 3.8L

  • The older Gooloo 1200 was/is great at around $80 discounted, sadly they just keep bumping up the capacity which is not necessary and just leads to bigger size/weight which I absolutely don't want. The Gooloo 1500 would probably be what I'd chose when they have the $30 off.

  • Go for the Gooloo brand when on sale.

  • The Goloo 1500 showing under $100 after applying the $30 coupon for me. I have this model and it easily started my neighbour’s 5L V8 with a drained battery voltage of 3.7.

    I am very happy with this:

    I was having alternator trouble, causing full battery failure, with my 3.8 litre Magna V6 this time last year.

    The $40 product has been very useful.

    Yes Muzeeb, the standard Magna engine is 3.5 litre, but 4 years ago I had the common 3.8 litre transplant from the later "380" done.

    • Couldn't get a better engine. Sauce: 380 owner

    • That makes sense. Cheers

  • P.S. At the time, I believe I paid more than $40 for it, possibly $65.99 looking back through my records, but it is the same product.

  • I have the kings jump starter - hasn't let me down yet
