Would You Need a Charger if Buying a New Mobile Phone?

2 years ago, Apple stopped providing a charger with their phones with Android manufacturers following suit. In other cases, manufacturers don't supply a charger that will charge a phone at max speed.

What is the situation like now? Would you need a new charger if buying a new phone?

I have over 20 chargers and even 4 PD ones.
Not a greenie but I prefer a repairable phone!

You need a fast charger, if you don't have one or you need light years to charge it.

For many users phone batteries will last a day. You on need to charge it over night so speeds don't matter.
If you're a medium/heavy user (also depends on the phone) and need to charge during the day then a fast charger is a must.

Till you stuck in a shop, air port, bus with 10% battery. Then you know how important is fast charger.

I reckon they should give you the option for one. If you don't decide to get one they should give a small discount or a voucher to spend within the brand. I think Xiaomi did it or one of the Chinese brands gave you as an option for a charging wall brick or not. 18W minimum for me as the other low wattage chargers are too slow.

They do give you the option, to buy one separately.

      • But it should be included in the price!!!

        • They have adjusted prices accordingly.

Absolutely not. But it's always good to have more Apple branded chargers and cables. I read too many stories of people dying from cheap Chinese uncertified chargers they buy online, and I know people who buy cheap Lightning and Android chargers that stop working after a few years even if they are careful with them. When a fault is found with an Apple charger in Australia they do a national recall and it's big news. I'm not going out of this world because I wanted to save a few bucks on a charger. I have so many cables and chargers that I tend to give them away to family.

Just use one that came with your laptop. Or are you scared that's too much wattage available for the phone?

      • I ended up buying an even more Wattage one because I forgot the one that came with the MacBook one day and I thought I may as well get the biggest one.

  • I used to work for Optus in the mobile phone section when smartphones were introduced until 3 years ago and confidently can say no.

Before, yes, for example the Galaxy S2, 3, 4 etc…. where the instructions actually said to charge before use.

The technology in batteries and phones is advance enough to not need a full charge before use. There is no harm charging your phone out of the box, like there is no harm using the phone out of the box until dead then charge.

Yes you can charge your phone overnight too as some people are scared to leave their phone on the charge at 100%, the software and battery has a defence mech that when it reaches 100% only a small amount of current is to maintain at 100%, the battery has a better chance of blowing up while charging under 100% than at 100%.
