Issues with Samsung Trade-in ID

I'm having a major issue with Trade-in ID.

I placed the S23 Ultra in my cart and used the trade in id to see the discount, but at checkout I backed out of the order because I wanted another colour. So, at checkout I clicked back and removed the phone from cart to replace it with another model, however somehow the trade id was used when I never placed an order or paid for anything.

I have emailed support and called, and no help from anyone. they keep pointing fingers to each other and I'm not sure what to do next.

I'm stressed because of how buggy and stupid their website is and now i will have to pay extra $60 dollar fees just because of it.

Anyone else have this issue and how did you get it fixed?

I'm trying to cancel the Trade ID but their website and support is no help.

I feel sorry for the support peeps at Samsung dealing with this. Took me 2 attempts reading all that for it to make some sense.

im stressed because of how buggy and stupid their website is

I'm now stressed from reading all of that!!

    • made it more simple for you to read.

      • Oh wow, I can actually read it now. It'll probably "hold" your code for some predetermined amount of time and then release it. It's to stop peeps placing multiple orders simultaneously. Try again tonight.

  • Same thing happen to me last time but Asurion still charged me the trade in value for not sending in my phone. Had to contact them and took them 3 months to get my money back at the end….

After that another deal came and I decided to take the deal but Asurion said my imei is used even though I did not make the purchase.

    • geezes this is how they get their money i guess, scamming other people

Samsung/Asurion places a hold on your card for the trade-in value of you phone when you add the trade-in to your cart. The trade-id is considered used at this point.

Since you didn't complete the purchase, I believe it will take ~7days for Samsung/Asurion to release the funds hold on your card (still waiting for mine to be released). I don't know whether the trade-id can be reused at this point or whether it just expires.

You can probably generate another trade-up code by clearing the cache on the trade-up app (or deleting and reinstalling it), just be aware that you'll need a big enough credit limit or balance in your account to support the two held amounts.

As for the $60 non-return fee, Asurion shouldn't charge this amount as there was no transaction completed.

It says its used on their end so they think its used..
no you are wrong. because its used its blocked from being used again, the app says imei validation failed its been used in a trade in

        Just make up another IMEI.

mate. thats not even the issue, the issue is to cancel this one so im not charged or i have to pay 60 for no reason

          • @Rukiata: I already explained that part - There's no way to cancel the "used" trade in code. You wont be charged $60 or the trade in value. The funds held on your card will be released in 7 days.

@salmon123: Did you read above. if its not cancelled you are CHARGED $60 dollars for a fee. It has happened to someone else.
it does not just disappear and release.
he just posted above its happened to him lol

              • @Rukiata: I can't comment on what happened to the other person or how long ago it was. I can only comment on the current behaviour with the s23 ultra.

                • @salmon123: and has this happened to you? has yours been cancelled and refunded and not charged?
its to early for the 23 ultra they will charge us in two weeks time or less

@Rukiata: If you didn't complete the transaction, how could they know your payment details?

                    • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: The Asurion trade up app asks for a credit card when you create a trade up code. When you use the trade up code on the samsung website, they put a hold on your card for the value of the trade up.

                  • @Rukiata: I used a trade up code on the samsung website and I see that they've placed a hold on my card for the value of the trade up. I didn't proceed with the purchase like you.

I'm waiting for the hold to be released. I'm confident it will be released, because they haven't sent me shipping labels or anything to return the phone.

                    • @salmon123: Given is Asurion, I won't hold my hope up. Most likely you will need to chase them up for the refund.

                      • @kekw: Easy enough to do a chargeback.

                        • @salmon123: Ye if you use a credit card. Else, you'd be in for a fun ride.

                          • @kekw: Pretty sure Mastercard debit and visa debit have similar terms for chargebacks.

                  • @Rukiata: Mate, salmon was right, no need to panic over that $60, if transaction doesn't go through (i.e you didn't actually placed the order) money will return to your card. If you already sent an email to them then they'll do it but it will take a few days. Asurion only put a hold on the value of the phone not the admin fee last time I checked.

              • @Rukiata: Relax mate, you will get your money back. Just need to talk to them and wait patiently. Or they might have improved their system since then and won't charge you at all. It is what it is, personally I cbf dealing with Samsung trade-in anymore unless another absolute steal deal come up again, then I might consider…

  • Sorry to hijack the thread.

But if I don't intend to send my phone in, is it best to force a $1 trade in value so they only hold $1.
And then later they charge me $60 admin fee and never hear from them again?

    • Look just use a debit card with only $1 in it, then it's impossible for them to charge you $60.

      • $60 for a chance to have problem down the line is not worth it IMO. Not saying that anything will happen, but anything can happen…

      • It's not impossible - lots of banks allow overdraws. I don't the full details of how it works, but it can happen with a debit card.

        • You have to enable the overdraw feature. Sometimes it is enabled by default. I turn off overdraw for all my cards, and keep only $5 in them. When I make a large purchase I transfer the money in from my savings account. This reduces potential losses if my card ever gets leaked / hacked / lost.

          • @AwesomeAndrew: Not all banks give you the option to disable the overdraw. Yeah, it seems wrong, but that's how they work. I don't know how it's legal.

  • I have the same issue. I am trying to trade in a cracked s21, which has a trade in value of $1. But then I realised that s23 is pretty bad value so I didn't complete the purchase. Now I somehow have $2 missing from my debit card from asurion. ($1 is pending, and $1 has gone through)

Just lodge a chargeback if support isn't helping. Funds will be returned to you usually within 2 months.

  • Woo ok it was somehow cancelled. not sure who or where as no one has emailed me or called me about it

i suggest pushing like i did if you want to cancel trade id

    • How do you know it was cancelled?

      • i had to look it up on their website and it shown cancelled

        • Where do you look it up?

        • What did you say in the email? I'm going through the exact same thing and they keep fobbing me off to Samsung, who just send me back. I don't want to miss out on the deal and have asked they just cancel it but they don't actually answer my questions in email.

  • has anyone else just received a heap of trade in messages, for phones you didnt trade in from over a year ago.

Its like asurion has finally gone through their backlog to charge everyone for not returning their phone, I had 6 emails today

    • sounds like someones trying to use ur info to scam idk but thats odd.
