It saves money on stuff you want to buy
It costs money on stuff you don't need but think is a bargain.

      Agree but…

      Buy now, think later.

We are good at the first part not the second.

I (and read somewhere here others) have packages delivered weeks ago that are yet to be opened and sorted.

Probably buy stuff I don't need more often. So maybe break even?

  • +6

Saves money on stuff I was looking to buy, so yes.

I liked to think yes even if the reality is no lol.
One thing I can be sure of is that my consumerism and materialism have increased exponentially.

It's time to introduce - OzB member cards. Platinum members will go straight to the deal, but Black and Gold members will get a pop-up: are you sure? You already spent $xxx this month??

Was not aware of cashback until ozb. Apart from that, no.

Ozbargain has made me aware of things I didn't know I needed until I saw them on sale - so yes, it's cost me money. OTOH I've saved on the purchases so there's that.

I don't even come here for the deals anymore.
I come for the "I hit someone and don't have insurance" threads.

In a way, let's me know when sobering drops on price so i can file a price protection claim

    • I do this too. I set a watch on products that I have paid too much for.

I've realised over the years that you get really good bargains here on the things you don't need at that time. Where as when actively looking to buy something then rarely find a big bargain. May be that's the reason for less upvotes because people who buy due to the nature of bargain but actually didn't need the deal usually aren't keen to upvote. An upvote comes only when someone's really happy with the purchase (need+bargain) and not when it's due to FOMO (only bargain).
Most just buy and move on.

    • I've learnt over the years not to settle on things just because there are OzBargain deals.

I use alerts for some items that I am considering. For things I actually need or plan on buying anyway, I use price protection(grandfathered) on my credit card.

As for upvoting, I don't think it correlates to purchases. I generally upvote things that I know a reasonable amount about and think are good deals.

Overall I think so I have spend more than I would have.
