Is GloBird any good for home electricity?

I just got a notice from my current provider… tariffs going up. Works out it’s a 27% increase on my current electricity plan. Asked them to do better and try to match another retailer, but they won’t budge.

Looking around, Globird seems the cheapest (although still about 15% more than what I pay now).

I figure, what’s the catch? The only thing I can see they might be different is on their move-out / cancel fees, as they seem about 50% higher.

They don’t do something weird, like ask you to install a smart meter, prepay fortnightly, or something right? (Place I’m in is old, has flat rate usage only).

Anyone with them can offer some insight on your experience?

I've been with them for a few months. Found them via Ozbargain threads when researching for a new provider. Haven't had any issues and seemed the best value when I swapped.

What is their latency like when you turn the lights on?

Been with them for several years. I give them less money than I would most providers, they give me the same electricity, nothing to report really. I was looking to switch after tariffs went up, but it appears they're still the cheapest for my use.

  • I used to use them, but they kept increasing the prices, so I switched back to AGL.

  • Signed up a few months ago after seeing a reasonableish offer with rates locked for rest of 2023, i remember being warned that after the promo rates ended they would be high..

didnt expect nearly every charge to double and the daily usage fee up 20%. Below are old/new rates exclusive of 'discount' (NSW)

                                    Current Jan2024

    Daily Charge $0.825 $1.067
    Peak Usage $0.352 $0.6215
    Off Peak Usage $0.2332 $0.30030
    Shoulder Usage $0.2332 $0.30030
    Controlled Load $0.2717 $0.19800

    Forgive any potential formatting.

Ill also add they bill monthly via bill estimate, which is very much lower than our usage (Im expecting bill to at least double when we get a read bill)

Couldnt recommend against them any more than right now

Well, to follow up. Stuck with the provider. They sent me another ~27% increase in July. Thought it must have been a mistake!

Have negotiated with them a couple times to get a couple extra percent off each time.

I looked around on EnergyMadeEasy and there are no substantially better offers on the market. Everyone’s rates went up. Also when you consider the provider offers quarterly billing, without credit card fees - makes it easy.

      • yeah i been looking. Found an okish one from Nectr (never heard of them till today) with 12 month lockin so I might switch over to them. You are right though, the whole industry has done it
