Good Earplugs For Working at Supercars Event

Following on from a previous deal, I will be working at the Supercars in Newcastle next month for 3 days. My hearing is crap at the best of times, and I know from being at Eastern Creek previously how bad it was .
I do have some Galaxy buds, that I can use possibly.
I might also be Supervisor, which means the possibility of using a Radio headset in one ear.

No recommendations, but what job will you be doing?
Reminds me I need to find some ear muffs for my kid for the day I drag him along for a look :)

  • Probably Bar, Catering or Corporate?

So you're not driving in the race?

      • My Hyundai I30 is not that fast.
        +1 @Muzeeb

      So hospitality. Cool
Slightly less exciting than track/Marshall work ;)

      • How did you know i owned a Marshall amp?

  • Class 5 is a good start. Correct fitting is important. Ear muffs are superior and protect parts of the ear that plugs don't. Use both for the best protection.

Ear Muffs would be best, but might look funny.
      I found these

No expert, but shouldn't your employer provide you some? Or are you getting hazard pay loading or something instead?

Hi John, long time no hear (LOL). I hope all is okay.

This company is not great at doing things like that, but there might be other divisions involved from Sydney.

Yeah you'd think they would supply it if these super cars can cause hearing damage.

      • Many years ago some of my mates worked for a parking lot; they got paid extra due to having to breathe in all the car fumes all day 🤷🏻‍♂️

        • +1

Wish I was paid extra for breathing in be all the radiation from smokers over the years. 🤬

  • Depends if you want bluetooth or not tbh
I like plugfones for work (listen to music all day and easy to pull out if I need to speak to someone)

Have also had custom moulds made a couple of times..
These fit much better and you can specify db cut
Local shops should come up with a googlin

    • It's more about blocking the noise where possible. I'm sure a plan will come up.

If you're not immediately trackside and are only in hospitality locations, then any foam, disposable ear plugs should work. 3M are highly rated and - in true OzBargain style - cost just 25c per pair.

To be fair, they're only V8 supercars, the crowd at the bar you are serving in Newcastle is likely going to be rowdier than the noise from the cars! Enjoy.

  • My hearing is crap at the best of times,

How would you know if the Earplugs are doing a good job?

    • I sometimes have trouble hearing some people when there is loud noise in the background.

  • "I wanna go fast!"

  • Disposable earplugs should be right for your needs. Most of them drop the noise levels by around 20db.

They are comfortable enough to use for extended periods. Any tool shop and places like Bunnings and even Officeworks etc sell them. You can buy them a range of pack sizes.
