Using AirTag with iPhone

My partner and I have made good use of Apple AirTags for our luggage during recent trips with her iPhone (I use Android).

However, I am about to go on a solo trip but would still like to use an AirTag. Can I put an AirTag in my bag and get her to track it with her iPhone? I'm not sure if this is a situation where the AirTag will start beeping because it's not on her person?

  • Yes you can. It'll only start beeping if someone else's iPhone detects that your AirTags are following them and it will give them the option to get them beeping so they can find them. But I think everyone knows by now that AirTags are used to track luggage and there's nothing to gain by telling the AirTag that you think you're being followed with it.

  • You sure can, just make sure the AirTag is linked to her Find My account which I presume it would be. There's a setting to limit alerts so doesn't have to be on her person at all.

You can disable the speaker in an AirTag if you want a stealth one.

  • Great, thanks everyone!

    I did this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8vAQNedIa0o

Same reason as you. Works great!

Um I don't think you can track it's actual location constantly like you can on your own iPhone.

I did some research on this recently, you can only track it's location on your own Apple account. On other peoples iPhones it will be invisible, until it is detected being very close by and moving with a random iPhone, then that random iPhone will get an alert saying there is a Airtag nearby.

A comment said there might be a "sharing" option in the Find iPhone App. But to be honest I would just reset the Airtag and pair it with your partners's iPhone. It would make things a lot simpler and probably work smoother IMO. In a worst case scenario you wouldn't want to open up the App and see nothing right.
