External HD

On holiday here on the Gold Coast and unfortunately have just dropped my external hard drive this evening. Going to have to purchase a new one in Melbourne later this week.

Looking for a 1TB drive.

What will give me the best value for money?

Thanks

  • my thought is to get a USB3 one. The next computer you buy will have USB3 and you will appreciate the faster file transfers then. On the deals page there is a 1tb hitachi one for $109.+ delivered I have had a hitachi one for 3 years now without problems

  • Usb or AC powered?

2TB ac-powered ones are better value, Officeworks has some good deals at the moment. http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…

  • You should be using a Dock, which allows you to shove a drive vertically into it.

I would dismantle your external hard drive case, and remove the hard drive.
    Shove that into your dock.
I reckon there was a 80% chance that you stuffed the case electronics.
And a 20 % chance that you stuffed the hard drive (They are designed to take pretty massive impacts, as long as they are not spinning at the time.)

If I am proven correct, I accept PayPal, or currency in the post.

  • +1

Open it up & check that the internal HDD hasn't just slipped out of the SATA connector…I've seen this plenty of times from dropped portables! Just shove the drive back onto the connector & Robert's your father's brother! :)

    • +1 for the phrase :)
