180

Was previously posted in 2019, game list has been updated since.

I was talking to a friend about the Nintendo Direct released few days ago and they said they already pre-ordered the digital copy of Zelda TotK. I told them about this voucher, and they were absolutely gobsmacked that it exists as they have never heard about it.

Two selected Nintendo switch games for $134.95. Obviously don't get the games that are like $60 with this voucher.

Vouchers are valid for 12 months (365 days) from the time of purchase.

Can probably find all these games cheaper than the prices listed sorry

    • Listed prices are RRP, so I really hope you can find them cheaper ahaha

Using the voucher for 2 games, each one is $67.5.

      • +1

And better with 10% off eShop cards, plus the gold points…

        • Is there any 10% off vouchers atm?

          • @beardelune: Unfortunately not, and they don't seem to happen around this time of the year either.

I had searched here to double check. Often they pop up around big w toy sale, eofy, black Friday and boxing day…. They are guaranteed.

    • I think only exception in the list would be:

Famicon detective club which is (digital exclusive)
Xenoblade chronicles 2 (cheapest is 90+ physical)

Was thinking of picking up BOTW2 and Bayonetta 2. On amazon they total $143. With the required NSO subscription (around $5), I'm only paying around $4 extra for two physical cartridges.

The eshop vouchers aren't a great deal sadly.

    • +1

It's a decently good deal for new release games specifically, if you're already using NSO.

    • Especially when physical Nintendo games, especially ones like the two you mentioned, will hold their value for many years to come.

Digital Nintendo games are worth about as much as Fifa 2008

    • +2

Not everyone loves changing carts constantly. It's a good deal for new games for those who like to go digital.

      • -1

Yeah it's such an inconvenience. I can't understand how anyone does it.

  • +2

I've used this a few times for games that I'd prefer to just start up and play and have no intention of selling. Changing cartridges isn't a huge hassle of course, but not having to do it sometimes is pretty neat.

Grab some discounted eshop credit for an even better discount!

    • +2

Changing cartridges becomes a pain if you use something like Ring Fit Adventure daily, which doesn't have a digital version =(

Pretty much the reason why I use these vouchers and prefer a digital library :)

      • Yeah that's one game i really wish could have a digital version! But i bought switch sports for a similar reason. Pick up and play, no switching around cartridges if i just want to get in a couple games

  • +4

Worth noting the vouchers earn Gold points at the same 5% of the purchase rate of digital sales, so at $135 you get $6.70 in credit towards another purchase. No points when redeeming the voucher but, only on the voucher purchase themselves.

For new releases the vouchers work out ok. If you wait long enough then the games will likely see sales that put them bellow the break even on this, but being Nintendo many of the larger titles like Zelda take a while to hit that and also don't see many sales if you have missed a previous one. Assuming you're targeting the more expensive releases of $80 RRP, I think it's less a question about value and more about whether you prefer physical or digital. If you're going digital either way then the vouchers make sense unless you're happy to wait it out for potentially a long tme.

  • +2

It's a good deal if you want digital

You get the gold coins so $6.70

Then get Eshop GC at 10% or 15% (usually only 10%), you may be able to stack Eshop discount at Jb by buying with a discounted gift card, can get the prices pretty low if you do all that.

Probably only good for games you really want in your system MK8 is one and the others im not entirely sure you need to go digital, maybe a Pokemon game or something that you can play over and over.

    135 - 6.70 - 13.50 = ~$115~ so $57.5 each
    135 - 6.70 - 20.25 = ~$108.05 so 54 each

Someone else can do the math on if stacking JB discount works, obviously this is rarer for specials to line up than others though

  • Was upset Octopath 2 wasn't included, not surprised but the first was.

    Would have immediately got.

  • Switch games are $$

    • -1

Only if you limit yourself to digital and only get games at RRP from the eshop.

      • I use https://www.dekudeals.com/ to look and wait for sales.
But AAA games are still $$, and are cheaper on PS/XB.

        • PS5 games are $99+ for AAA games

          • @azngamer: Most AAA games go on sale after 6 months and you can get them for $20, except AAA switch.
They are like Apple, rarely drop in price.
