How Reliable Are Cars Passing WOVI?

Been looking at some SUVs from a dealer which are $5k below the average private sale price but are listed in WOVR.

If repairable write-off, are those normally on doors and bumpers but structurally sound and ANCAP safety rating stands?
How about the test they normally do on airbags?

Do a ppsr, it will tell you what the damage was. For $5k it's not worth it simply for the difficulty in reselling it.

Dont touch them. Not because they are a problem, but because when you go to sell it, that WOVR entry is going to kill the resale… Unless you are getting a VERY good deal on the vehicle, or are buying it to drive it into the ground, stay away. The other issues is, how was it repaired? "No expense spared" or "quote high, fix with used parts and crap paint."

When you go to get insurance, you need to declare that the vehicle is a repairable write off and there is a really really high chance they will only cover you for 3rd party property damage, not for your car.

Let some other sucker buy it.

  • They SHOULD have been repaired and inspected to be passed for roadworthy again. I believe they must show receipts for parts like airbags as part of the process. BUT it’s no guarantee that the repairs are decent quality.

$5k off doesn’t sound like enough discount for the potential hassle with insuring and difficulty reselling let alone risk of substandard repairs.

$5k below the average private sale pric

Half market value or less… or nothing!

    • I completely agree with 50% discount. The problem is suckers will pay a lot more than that because all they see is what looks like a very good vehicle, and WOVI/R is just words, and the sellers know this.

      • This. It's so enticing to see these vehicles like nothing happened, very good detailing done and was thinking if I should give it a go, but seeing the many expert advise here not to, then I won't now. cheers

    Do the PPSR ( https://www.ppsr.gov.au/ )
It’ll be the best $2 you’ve spent for car info.
WOVR will always be attached to the VIN# of the car, and devalue accordingly.
