Buying Discounted JB Giftcards - How to Reduce Risk?

Hi All,

I recalled a few years ago, I was able to use the Gift Card I just bought from a seller to buy another online JB GC.
That way it generated a new giftcard code/pin.

Is this still possible?

Thanks all.

The best way to reduce your risk is not to buy from random unknown sellers. It's just not worth it.

Try to find a suitable rewards program/platform/portal that has JB Hi-Fi cards at 5% off: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards

  • You can still purchase JB gift cards with giftcards online..or convert the various swap gift cards to JB cards.

The biggest risk is purchasing the initial gift card… for 7-10% discount rather than 3-5% discount via the various portals

    • Ah sounds good. Looks like I can still get it to generate a new card.

  • Hi,

    I don't see how.
Unless you had a JB Voucher that was very close to expiry and JB was somehow also on board and facilitated you buying a Voucher with a Voucher.
But, surely a Seller would have explored that option, rather than sell to you at a Discount?

Alternatively, maybe people bought an Item and Returned it for a refund to JB Gift Card?
(although no Guarantee that this would occur, given no "change of mind" policies).

There was once a https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/597251 option, but more of a Bargain to buy and then get Cashback than a worthwhile JB date extension strategy worth your time and money.

    • Jb vouchers don't expire.

Last time I bought I did ask abt why they had it 1k excess. They said they got given the 1k in an employee portal as part of good performance / xmas gift by their employer.

      Seems reasonable to me?

I've bought a total of $3000 JB Hi-Fi giftcards from people on OzB with no issues - u/ Neoika, tinx, cheapfab have been great with my recent issues with JB online. Not sure if they have more. Only buy from long-time users who are active and have (legitimate) previous sales.

Otherwise the rewards portals have little to no risk for a smaller saving.

If you shop at Woolies they've got the current offer (until 14/2, I think?) of 20x reward points on certain gift cards including the "Ultimate For Him" or something like that, which can be used at JB. The 20x points works out to the equivalent of 10% of the value of the card as Woolies credit, so you can consider that a discount if you shop there and would spend those Woolies dollars anyway.

I just bought $400 worth of these gift cards over the weekend and got the $40 worth of Woolies credit back via the points.

Ah makes sense. Also means I won't be trapped with just one vendor. Thanks!

  • The only way I would buy someone else’s giftcards, is to go to JB hifi with that person, make a successful purchase with the giftcards, then hand the person the cash for the giftcards.
