  I really enjoyed this game, but it’s not for everyone. You could easily finish it in a week too.

  Didn't even know Nintendo did a paid sub service (waiting for my Switch in the mail). What's the deal here? Some of the snes games are tempting, but do I need an annual sub to access them? Kind of annoying considering the state of emulation.

    Yes you'll need a sub for NSO to access the classics library, search around the forums here for people offering a slot in their family plan. Works out to either ~$8 per year for the basic plan, or ~$14 for the expansion pack plan. Not sure I'd pay the full individual pricing per year personally but for $14 per year the value is getting really good (especially as some DLC is included in it now, like the Mario Kart 8 booster pack thingy).
