Faulty AliExpress Item - Best Way to Get Refunded?

I bought a DVD player from Aliexpress. Order made on 29 Nov.

Few weeks later, found it to not charge properly. Seems like both the battery and the micro usb charging port are faulty. Battery doesn't hold charge, and it will only charge if some pressure is put on top of the charging cable to ensure proper contact with the charging port?

The item is under 75-day buyer's protection and it's now 78 days. 3 weeks ago, I contacted the seller and he said he will send out a new battery but he is not replying me anymore.

I bought it via Paypal, using 28degrees mastercard. Any suggestions on how I should open the dispute now?

Thanks in advance!

You can try a credit card charge-back since seller giving you intentional run around, but beyond that, lesson learnt on buying cheap junk from AliExpress.

You can pick up DVD players for $10 on Gumtree.

    • This one's a portable DVD player that the kids can use themselves..

      • I just dumped a whole load because nobody uses discs anymore!

This cordless dvd player has built-in screen and powered by batteries. Hehehe.

Alternative would be cheap phone or tablet that can be customized / locked out with skins, that only plays pre-loaded videos (provided it's not a dud that crash/hangs too often).

The one I want is one without a screen. Anyway, that is not the issue I wanted to discuss here.

        • Lol yeah, I just wanted to stir the pot a bit.

  • 28d you can get a quote to repair, so just email someone asking how much to fix this, or you could "lose" it somewhere lol, if you have the shoppers protection that is

    Raise a refund via PayPal.

If I buy from AliExpress I just assume no warranty, no refunds etc. Not worth the hassle.

AliExpress = no warranty. You want some sort of guarantee? Use ebay or Amazon.

Try a Paypal dispute but don't hold your breath.

Sure, but if your aliexpress account is banned, you'll know why.

Basically Aliexpress is no warranty regardless of what they say.

Ali have given me goodwill refunds out of time 2 or 3 times when asked for over the past few years. Email them, if you are a customer who buys and its not just a one off purchase you might be surprised.

  • The buyer's protection starts from when you receive the item and advise Aliexpress to release the funds to the seller. I have never had a problem with getting a refund when I have received either the wrong or faulty item with Aliexpress. Request a return and refund from the seller in the message section and if they don't respond go through PayPal.

It's a chinese-made product, so it's crap, you can send a balloon to them to return.
Most of the time they don't refund and don't speak english so they won't answer your inquiries for a month or so
until they get a translator, those are from my experiences.

Not saying the seller has no responsibility here. But you bought a cheap POS, so its not exactly unforeseeable or even unlikely that this would happen. If not now, in another month or two. When you are going to shop at cheap-ass overseas sites you need to have a strategy in mind for what you will do if anything goes pear shaped. For most people, that involves assuming no warranty replacement, no customer service, and no recourse. If you don't want to roll the dice, buy local and be covered by Australian consumer law.

  • the usb port might need to be resoldered. pad lifted or cold solder joint. have you tried another cable? have you tried opening it up and actually seeing what is wrong with the usb port?

    • Yes, I've tried with another cable. Dont want to open it up just in case it voids whatever warranty there might be, or gives the seller another reason not to refund.

  • Since the quality of the items is usually dodgy with items over $50, I have been requesting refund/replacement from Aliexpress the day I get it so that it gets reported to them quickly,. Then If it works fine I close the case or if its faulty I get it replaced.

  • What was the appeal of buying a DVD player from Aliexpress, supercheap? Extra feature?

    • I cant find a portable DVD player, with no screen, in the Australian market. The one I bought from Aliexpress has bluetooth too. I cant find any equivalent in the Australian market.. Happy to be shown one though!
