Lol scotch is the new syd/Mel house price, doubles every 7 years

Yeah, they really need to get stuffed. Bring on the recession

    • +2

Japanese whisky prices matched Tokyo 1980s house price changes…

if you wanna buy this whisky, eat your smashed avocado at home.

You’re not wrong. Too bad we’ve been drinking the stuff instead of hoarding haha

    • buy 2 and it's free shipping. but I have never hear of the site.

Nice that you have now :)

We were awarded retailer of the year for ROW in 2022 from the Icons of Whisky and runner up for all but Scotland in 2023. We show pricing from about 80 online indie retailers, sell products of about 20 and have our own stash.

We also run Australia’s largest whisky festival, The Whisky Show and the Facebook Group Whisky Lovers Australia.

Interesting to know. I used to love the whisky show when you first started them (I think 10 years ago?). First one I went to was 2013 or 2014.

Went for a number of years, up to 2018 (or 2019) which was when they got more expensive but the quality of tastings on offer took a dive.

          • @Gunnar: Ah is it possible you mean whisky live? They introduced other, more cheap spirits around then.

The whisky show is only whisky and most of the brands aren’t available at the super market chains, so are pretty great quality.

            • @thewhiskylist: Nah the whisky show, the one that used to always be on the week around the 3rd weekend in May. In Sydney it used to be at the stamford plaza hotel near the Airport before it moved to the city.

The branding for the one I went to is the same as this event you have
              https://thewhiskylist.com.au/events/the-whisky-show-sydney-2…

              • @Gunnar: Yeah that’s one! Obviously biased here, it’s worth giving a try again. The lineup is pretty great, GlenDronach, BenRiach, Bunnahabhain, Ledaig, etc and quite a few new world and Aussie brands.

        • cool. I do follow Whisky Tribe but not TWS, will take a look

      • Its a great site, o have bought side lovely whisky from them, items you can't get in Dans etc at a great price.

  • The price went up recently to $160 at Dan's and now it's going up again to $199?

Gotta start drinking red label with coke soon

    • +1

      Yup. It’s rough atm

Rum prices have been pretty stable, and there's a lot of depth to the rum world. Not as much as scotch, but worth getting into it :)

I have 6 bottles of it bought at a reasonable price ages back. Given the prices now it appears they they'll be the last 6 I have in my life.

    FFS.

    • +4

Yeah used to only get them when it dropped under $100. Prices are nuts now

      • +1

Same. First time I had it it was $50/bottle. If only I had bought crates back then…

        • +2

Yeah the Time Machine would be handy for the Whisky collection lol

  • Dang gonna have to settle for lag 9 at this rate 🥹

    • That'd be exactly why they introduced it. A lower aged whiskey to prop up the nutbar price of the 16yo.

      • Yup. It was surgical

        • Surgical, yet better than the Laphroaig10

  • What’s a bottle of this cost in Europe or Duty Free?

    • $140-$150 AUD. But likely to go up soon there too.

      • $140 for a 1 litre at Duty Free? We’re getting closer to pre-COVID prices

        • Nah 700ml

  • +1

BTW. Your site seems to fail at sorting by price low-to-high. High-to-low looks fine but I'm not interested in shelling out $3k for a drink. :)

    • Yeah thanks. It’s an annoying bug with the a recent site upgrade that should be fixed soon.

      • +2

I can fix it for you for a couple of Lagavulin, Single Malt ;)
Or I can tell you what causing the issue for Launceston Distillery H17:02 Tawny Cask Matured Australian Single Malt Whisky ;)

        • Haha that might be a good solution for the backlog of nice to have new features ;)

          • +1

@thewhiskylist: Here is a freebie, I assume you are sorting on the wrong column in the database, you probably have two, one with RRP and one with sale price, and currently sorting on RRP.

            • @boomramada: Nah it’s that we have multiple prices for each product, being a marketplace, and aren’t yet using Algolia to handle search results, but rely on the shopify API, which has limitations.

We’re just in the process of updating how we use shopify in order to handle this.

Headless Shopify is great, but results sorting is fairly weak, so will eventually have to get Algolia in place.

  • ahhh bugger it, I'm in for 2! Can't imagine these ever going down in price. Should last a long time.

    • Cheers mate! And fair call. Can’t see them being available for this price again either unfortunately

  • Can we pm at Dan's?

    • +1

Or you could just buy from us, since we're a small business doing the work to get people good whisky.

  • Can you confirm if these will be shipped with the box?

I bought my last one from Boozeb*d was gonna use as a present but they shipped it without the dang box.

    • With the exception of boxes being damaged inbound from the supplier, they should all ship with boxes.

  • This is back on. We have maybe 60 bottles again!
