Credit Card That Can Be Used Instead of The Regular Credit Card

I am looking for a credit card that can be used instead of the regular credit card.

Reason: I discovered that my bank was doing illegal things with my account, they did not like it that I asked for it to be corrected multiple times (i.e. no more illegal activity), and as retaliation now they are saying that we are 'parting ways', which includes removal of my account and credit card. I do not support breaking of law, so I can not support them.

It makes no difference if it is Mastercard or Visa
Use: Within Australia and overseas
Capability: Online and in-person purchases
Preferrable: No foreign transaction charges, no/minimal charges when loading the card, fee-free, ease of use

Edit: Would there be a Travel debit card that could be used, perhaps? Would anyone like to make any recommendations?

Edit 2: Australia Post Every day card is with Mastercard. One has to register their name, surname, address, telephone number. However, MasterCard has no responsibility if any cash on it is lost or stolen, even though it comes with a pin.
One wonders whether it was created for tracking purposes only? It costs about $8.

New question: would anyone know of another everyday card that can be used as a credit card for online payments, minus the idiotic tracking?

I am looking for a credit card that can be used instead of the regular credit card.

    I'm confused.

It's easy; OP doesn't now have a "regular" credit card so wants an irregular card?

      • +3

        That makes more sense. Cheers.

    • +1

      Haha you're not alone

Hmm, credit card from another bank?

I think regular credit cards are the only type of credit cards.
The product OP mentions seems like a reloadable prepaid card — which is technically not a credit card. Is that what you mean OP?

Then there are debit cards, personal charge cards, prepaid reloadable travel money cards, etc.

    • +1

OP just wants a credit card that works like a real credit card.
      With only 2% interest.

    • +1

Not a rectangle. Any irregular shape will do.

    • I discovered that my bank was doing illegal things with my account

      It only gets more confusing.

    illegal things with my account

Can't wait for the full version…

instead of the regular credit card.

    what

  • Illegal is strong words.

Were they laundering money, buying weapons…

https://www.ing.com.au/credit-cards/orange-one.html meets most of those criteria.

Yes, prepaid travel card, or personal charge card.

    • +2

      personal charge card.

I haven't heard that term used in the last 20 years. Thanks for the memories.

    • I know of 2 personal charge cards still offered in Australia, 1. AMEX platinum & 2. Diners Club

Amex had a personal Gold charge before, I don't think it's offered anymore.
You can get a companion Mastercard for diners club cards; however I'm not sure if they are still considered charge, also, things might have changed after the NAB acquisition.

Neither of the cards above has OS transaction fee waiver.
Also, I don't know of any Prepaid/Prepaid Travel cards that has OS txn fees waived. There are travel cards that lets you pre convert currency at the bank exchange rate. However, those have fees baked in to the rate.

However, technically, debit cards issued by most neo banks are not actually debit cards, they are just prepaid cards. If you use a BIN checker you can get this information. So If you open an account with someone like Revolut, Hay, or Wise you'd be issued a prepaid card rather than a debit card.

If you just want to change banks, there are plenty of options open for you to pick from to get a debit card that has no OS txn fees.

Illegal is a true word. If someone is doing something that is not legal, it is illegal.

    • +1

Are you saying that someone used your card fraudulently and the bank didn't stop the transactions? If so, weird way to go about saying it.

        • +2

What if the bank we recommend turns out to do the same 'illegal' thing as your bank? Give better example of what illegal things was done so you get better recommendations?

        • Lack of information provided by you?¿

        • +1

because your being cagey and we have to make assumptions? If you were solid in your position the bank is in the wrong then you'd clearly lay out to everyone what the bank did.

    • +6

Care to give us an example of what illegal things the bank did?
Maybe we can give you a better answer if we actually know what you really mean and what you want.

    • If someone is doing something that is not legal, it is illegal.

In one way, this is an absolutely true statement. But the most important word in that statement is if, especially in the context of this discussion.

On the other hand, laws rarely tell you what is legal. They only tell you what is illegal. Therefore, any act that is not illegal, is legal.

Unless you are Nixon or Trump. lol

      • Hunter Biden has entered the chat

  • +3

Which bank is it so we can avoid providing you the same bank/subsidiary and instead provide other banks doing illegal things.

What did you question them on? It could be the same for other banks too…

    • +1

      Which bank

Must not be too confident of the illegal allegations…

  • +1

If it really is illegal what the banks did and you don't like the outcome, make an AFCA complaint.

    • The banks really hate those slaps on the wrist. Not to mention the fines that eat into their bonuses customers’ investment returns

      • +2

I know it won't affect the bank whatsoever but if it's a legitimate complaint about illegal activities by the bank, that's where they should be directing their efforts towards. ASIC might like to know what the illegal activities are too.

        • Good idea. Accountability is a good thing… look at all the arrests that came out of the Panama Papers… reminds me of The Big Short

  • Examples of illegal use pls.

    AusPost Prepaid Mastercard?

    • Seems to convert at Auspost rate rather than Mastercard rate

      This card: AU$100 = US$64.99

      Mastercard rate: AU$100 = US$68.09

      This sounds excellent.

      Any pros/cons?

      • +6

Yes pros/cons. We will only reveal them when you answer the numerous requests of what illegal things your bank was doing.

      • I received this message @ 2 weeks ago.
The safety and security of our customers is always our priority and we are currently working to deliver new security improvements. While we work through this important delivery, we’ve temporarily switched off the option to reload funds with a debit card online (via app and My Account).

It shouldn’t be too long before this option is available again, and we apologise for any inconvenience. To help you during this short time we would like to remind you of the other ways to reload funds to your Australia Post Everyday Mastercard:

I don't use it often, only for the odd purchase that might be dodgy or a scam.

  • You can try HSBC. They have a visa debit card and you get 2% cashback if you tap purchases under $100.

Reason: I discovered that my bank was doing illegal things with my account

What kind of "illegal things" are you referring to? Can you share some of the things they did so that we can help you avoid it when recommending another product?

  • +3

I’ve read the whole thread and I’m still wondering what illegal things the bank in question has done. Multiple requests followed by no answers. Maybe the OP didn’t read the T&C’s? Shrug

    • Karen factor must be high… how often would a bank cancel a customers account.

  • +1

I genuinely am worried about society.

  • If you mean a card that isn't a CC but you can still buy stuff with online because it has a number like a CC… and no foreign transaction fees… Macquarie Bank.
