Best Non-OLED TV

After extending my lounge, I'm after a bigger TV - at least 65", but probably 75". At this size, OLED is probably unaffordable, and the room might have too much light to block out for OLED. It's certainly no home theatre, and would mostly be used for dodgy reality shows by the rest of the family, and sport (mainly AFL) for me.

Would appreciate recommendations.

  • What's your budget?

    • good question - preferably under $2k

    Sony X90J perhaps

    • Why not X90K?

      • The X90J is rated better, and is generally cheaper overall as it's the older model.

        • X90J and K are too reflective, In a light filled room its pretty bad.

  • This TCL will suit your viewing habits. 75 inch. Google TV. Great reviews. Check out YouTube

Be warned, TCL’s are great for kids cartoons, horrible for sport.

  • Currently got a Samsung UA65BU8000W, which I find decent for our current needs. The UI is not as laggy as my old Samsung TV so thats always a good start.

  • For sport (motion) you want a Sony LCD. The Sony eBay store can have some great deals.
For example the 85X9000H was recently available for $2150, and the 65X9500H for $1600.

    • Currently available:
      65A80K OLED (seconds) $2390
      65A80J OLED (seconds) $2349
      65X95J (seconds) $2199
      75X90J (seconds) $1999
      65X90K $1995
      65X90K (box damaged) $1649
      65X90J (seconds) $1499

  • In the same boat and going for the Sony. Great reviews for watching tv shows and sport especially.

You could get close to your budget by getting the 75" X90K currently for $2695 at Sony and use cashrewards to bring it down to $2,371. If you have Amex that makes it $2,271.

TCL is also a good option. If you can wait for another sale the 75C835 should be close to your budget. Or get the 65" https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tcl-65-inches-mini-led-google…

TCL mini LED 75" c835 version. Regularly on sale for just under 2k.
I just bought the 65 version for just under 1.5k and it's awesome (one you change a few settings)

    • I considered this, but think the narrow field of vision won't work in my situation.

      • Huh?

Website says 178 degrees viewing angle.

Do you need more than that??

        • sorry, I had the wrong model. I walked through Costco and honestly couldn't tell much difference between them all, but I suspect that's due to the vision that was playing.

  • Also, is it worthwhile seeking Dolby Vision?
