Looking for a Streaming Box with an Antenna Input for Live TV

I currently have the Telstra TV box (A reskinned roku 3) although I am wanting to get something different as its having a couple issues, plus the home screen is full of ads which I would obviously prefer to not have..

I did also notice as of Dec 2022 Telstra have stopped selling the Telstra TV box. Wondering if theres some sort of replacement coming?

I was wondering if there are any other good options?

I am just wanting a box that supports live TV from antenna along with being able to have whatever streaming services I have on it.

The TV has absolutely trash hardware so its not feasible to just download the apps onto the TV.

I use a HDHomeRun to watch and stream live TV around the house to all my devices.

    • Of course JV watches commercial TV on all his devices.

        Watching MAFS right now…

That Adam is a piece of work…

    Tv antenna input doesn't work?
    .

  • I've got an NVIDIA Shield with an USB TV tuner to run Plex for live commercial TV. You could add in an external HDD to that to be able to use it as a DVR.

I've got an NVIDIA Shield with an USB TV tuner

That's what I use for the HDHomeRun tuner on the TVs… Saves you buying multiple TV tuners for every device.

      • They're next to impossible to find though. Even Silicon Dust themselves only have refurb units on their website.

Nope, there are new and refurb available…

I use Sony Playtv. Dual tuners can be had on ebay for ~$20. Works out of the box with plex, tvheadend etc. Can also run something like antennas to emulate hdhomerun. much cheaper than an actual hdhomerun which are stupidly overpriced.

Said he used it with Plex so why would he need a tuner for each device?

  • Any old Android box and Freeview would do the trick, wouldn't it?

I haven't tried it in ages but it still seems to exist as an Android app. Not using the antenna but would still work fine.

Telstra partnering with fetch soon if you can wait

Get a Fetch box. Love mine.

Yep I much prefer my Fetch box to my Chromecast with Google TV. Superior remote, easier to navigate and a better UI.

  • Try a Telstra TV 2, rather than a 3. I was having heap of problems with the 3 and when I got a 2, they went away

Although you can’t get rid of the stupid Home Screen
