Tiger $39 SYD to MEL Sale + Others

Not as good as the recent $10 deal but I think the $39 each way SYD-MEL is pretty good.
I also found that although the travel period is stated from 15 Aug, there were $39 flights from Mel on 13 Aug.

    • I did the pricemacth, thanks for the info.
i dunno wether i got a bargain or not but $287 return flight SYD-MEL for 4 persons, can't complain more.

      • Hi,which airline you do pricematch?

        • OMG tell me you didnt just ask that?

did you even look at what he replied too?

Hahaha.. Tiger Airways… Booked three times with them, flew zero times. Each time the flight was cancelled - AFTER I'd already arrived at the airport. The amounts wasted on taxis and transfers would easily have made up the difference for a fare with Virgin or Jetstar.

    NEVER AGAIN!!

heck you were lucky, i got a 25 dollar flight, flew up with jetstar(got them to price match), got to the airport at 9 for my 1030 flight home, they'd moved it to 3PM, ended up having to book a 250 dollar virgin flight home, they would only refund me 25 bux. mate got a tiger flight home, they would only refund the 25 dollars for him too even though his flight cost 200 to get home… they deserve to go under, only thing they are good for is pricematch fodder…

    • Agreed, I had the option of a $55 Tiger Flight and $109 Virgin flight (which was at a better time anyway) decided to go for Virgin anyway…

Unfortunately no Jetstar flight around the same time… :(

    • I might be lucky as I flew them 2 times and no issue at all.. What surprised me was they were all on time lol

Actually I have a flight mel-syd this Sat. It's $10 flight ($35 return including booking fees) so hope everything goes well.

The only thing I would complain is the seat pitch. I'm very small and have short legs but felt very uncomfortable. Well cant complain on $35 return flight lol taxi to Tullamarine one way is double.

  • I flew with Tiger for the first time last week, and didn't have any problems. I think they got their act together after CASA's grounding last year. It is worth mentioning that they are VERY strict with the on-board luggage weight. I had 11.5 kg across two bags (incl laptop) and was asked to either check in a bag (for $70!) or go and "rearrange". I "re-arranged" (i.e. put on about 5 extra layers of clothes) to get the weight down to 10kg and the check-in lady said.. "oh I see you're wearing a few more layers now", smiled, and let me through.

I regularly fly the Mel-Per route for work (every 2-3 weeks). As I pay and get reimbursed for flights I can choose whichever flights I want. For the Mel-Per leg I always choose to fly Tiger as it fits in best with my schedule. In the 17 months I have done this, 2 of my flights have caused issue. One was cancelled due to "Operational Reasons", and the the second was turned around midway to Perth due to not being able to land at Perth due to fog.
In the same time period, I can recall at least 3 times where Qantas passengers have been delayed (due to strikes, baggage drop, or computer failures) and I have departed on time.

Basically, every airline has it's ups and downs. While I admit the Tiger planes are looking a bit dated and dirty and their Melbourne terminal is a shed, for someone that is conscious of money, they are a perfectly acceptable alternative and in my experience is no worse than any other Australian carrier in terms of departure/arrival times.

At the end of the day it's your decision who you fly with and it annoys me the number of people who say Tiger is the worst airline ever yet they still fly with them. If you have a bad experience (yes it happens) and loathe them, fine, don't fly again with them.

I agree with Michael_123. Have flown with Jetstar, very little leg room and flights changed at least five times prior to flying and then flew with Tiger for the first time in April this year. No complaints and good price. Saw them making every effort to get people checked in before closing. No problems witnessed at airports. Had to get flight for my student son from Melbourne to Adelaide last year. No Tiger=No competition, price wise. So I am happy to support them.

  • I have flown with tiger numerous times no problems at all!!! I Dnt no if I've just been lucky but I can't say a bad word about them.
