Good Home Office Printer for Heavy Scanning, Light Printing

Can anyone recommend a good home office printer that has the following features:

  • Sub $400
  • Fast document feeder (preferably double sided) scanning.
  • Can be inkjet or laser
  • wireless
  • good quality (double sided) colour printing.

I'm looking to upgrade from my ancient Brother printer and I have boxes of documents I need to scan.

    How much scanning?
When we needed this, the limitation was the scanner sheet feeders.
We needed up with an Epson, it is Ok, but the duplex printing is unreliable, and it only does one side scanning.

We regularly scan 40+ page documents, several times a week, and I think we are on the cusp of needing a proper document scanner like a snapscan, with he accompanying high costs.

Anything else ? Laminating as well for $400 Lol

Since you say, heavy scanning, get this
Brother MFC-L2750DW, can do single pass double-sided scanning.

    For colour printing, visit officeworks.

Or get the MFC-L3770CDW which you can print with as well.

      • Yep but not for $400 :)

        • I can get the MFC-L3770CDW for around $380 as I have access to the JB/GG's staff discount. Although the price of the (official) toner is too expensive. I'm a bit worried about Brother making the use of generic toner too difficult, through driver updates etc.

@eris: They do forcing with their latest firmware update. Doesn't bothers me fortunately as I hardly print.
And color toner is like $100 a pop? Hence the idea of getting a BW, use office work for printing, its all about how much you printing?

Pushes your budget a bit but this is the one we have. Excellent unit

    • Do you get by with using generic toner? The brand toner is around $400 for a complete refill.

      • Generic is fine.

      • its a good printer but doesnt do 2-sided scanning . the bigger brother machine does but its more expensive

  • "boxes of documents I need to scan" Is this a once-off or a regular thing? If the former, Officeworks have self-serve scanning.
Re printers I suggest look into the Epson inktanks. Used Brother lasers for years and not going back.

  • Libraries offer free scanning, and you can save to USB stick, file or whatever. And their machines do double sided scanning too- just select double sided before you press start.
