Anyone Bought from @Camelfarmer on Classifieds

So I have recently bought $400 worth of Coles gift card from @Camelfarmer….but had not received any despite multiple message requests being ignored.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/758192

Initial convo were positive and sounded genuine, with him citing gift card portal having issues and would sort it out at work. He even asked if I wanted a refund, but I checked his posting history and people seems to have bought from him previously with positive outcomes.

Now it has been 2 days since he last responded and I could see he had be "online" multiple times throughout the 2 days.

Could someone provide some insight or could reach out to him ?

Update 28/02/2023:
@camelfarmer have finally made contact overnight, explaining the reasoning of his/her absence, and offered to refund the full amount. Whether the reasoning is true or not, I cannot be sure, and as of this moment I am still waiting for the refund to appear in my account.

Just putting it out there for anyone may come across this member in the classified in the future

    For those playing at home

Don't really know why ppl risk it for a $7.50 saving…

    • Don't really know why ppl risk it

It's the criteria to post here.

    • +6

Realistically it's only a $3.50 saving for 100% more risk.

    • Gotta shake my head everytime

  • +1

Yet another one of these posts. Is 7.5% off really worth the risk buying from random people?

Hopefully @camelfarmer will resolve this for you. It's only been 2 days so will be miscommunication/misunderstanding.

    • +6

I would call Coles. camelfarmer is an Authorised Reseller of Coles Gift Cards

      • +1

What do you mean authorised reseller?

        • +1

They have been authorised by Coles to sell these GCs to unsuspecting victims.

  • +1

    @camelfarmer ?

    • +1

Not replying 'cause he/she/they have got the hump?

    @brendanm

Some comedy gold to get you through the weekend.

These threads really are the gift that keeps on giving 👍

      • +1

The penny gift card will drop oneday.

  • Camefarmer is a long term gift card seller, been dealing with her and always got the gift card.

    • Can you help reach out to her to see what's going on?

      • I messaged her and here if she response

        • Thanks 🙏

          • @jobargain: OP said it's a "he" and someone is now messaging a "she". Which one is it OP? Or different person?

    • +6

Op is after the camelfarmer though. Easily confused.

  • are you sure you're talking to the right person?

    • Yes, been replying to the same message thread…and also sent SMS to PayID number

  • +1

    Was it a UBank PayID?

Maybe they're having difficulty accessing the funds

And have now changed the "last seen" settings to hide it.

      Wonder why the change now

      • Wonder why the change now

They are obviously monitoring this thread.

  • Slightly related..

Bought something off a forum, the seller sent me an invoice with a name on it, and then about 10mins later, sent me an updated invoice with a similar name but different

(Like John Smithson to John Smith)

I haven’t paid the seller yet, as I queried why they did it happened, but anyone experienced anything similar and can comment?

    • Item/forum?

    • Slightly related if you were buying camels maybe

  • 19 comments in and not one person has recommened bikies.

    Shame on you ozbargainers.

    • +8

Have you seen the price of TimTams?
Oh, sorry I read it as bikkies.

      • +2

Have you seen the price of bikies?

      • +1

I only look at the price when it says 50% off.

  • +1

    They are online now.

  • +2

    Camel farmer is online now!!!
    @camelfarmer don’t let us down!

    • +1

You’re more invested in this than most of us…

Purchased a 100 coles GC before from this seller but I only got the card details (in fairness, it was mentioned in the ad that only the card details will be sent). Anyway, I added it in my Wallet so I get the barcode but I never managed to use it, I have asked the attendants in Coles to key it in too but it was also not working. I asked seller for the copy of giftcard but I was told it was in the ad that only card details will be sent and that it is not available so I did not pursue. The card shows up though when I check balance online. I ended up requesting a physical card replacement from giftcards.com.au to use it.

I hope it was just unlucky of me to have a faulty one but thought I'd share my experience here. Seller was responsive to me though and was polite.

There is a Doordash GC seller here who I dealt with twice and in both times, a card would be faulty. I was so nice in informing him that a card is already used, first time he replaced, and the last one I ended up getting blamed as if I am the scammer saying I am always reporting issues when he is dealing with me, haha. Like duh, how about not selling used cards! Ended up losing $20 I hope he gets rich with it.

    • You can add the card details in through Storcard app
He/she was polite at the start, but since 2 days ago, been AWOL..even though he/she been "seen" online numerous times

      • +1

yea I added it in my Google wallet but when I scanned it, it did not work. no joy too when it was manually keyed in, the attendant said card was not found or something. I am really not sure what happened to that I am just glad it was honored when I asked for a replacement card via giftcards.com.au helpdesk.

I can imagine your stress, hopefully you get a reply soon and there is a valid reason on why you are not hearing from the seller till now..

        • Fingers crossed

  • +5

There should be a page to list all these dodgy sellers so other OzBers would be aware.

    • Would be a good idea

    • +2

Dodgy sellers always have the best bargains, so I’m not so sure about this idea

    • +2

I would list anywhere and anyone selling discount gift cards as a scam. You're stuck with what is essentially Monopoly Money. Not worth the potential few dollars saved for the volume of people that end up shafted.

  • +2

Calculate how much admin time and stress went into this and if this was worth the savings?
Also do this for all similar situations across the year? Was it worth it?
    I am genuinely curious.

    • +1

I think we all know the answer without a time and motion study but it would still be an interesting insight.

  • Why do people keep buying cards this way?

    • +2

So we can continue being entertained by the resulting forum posts?

  • Now @camelfarmer changed his/her "Last seen" status to "Hidden", so basically he/she just acknowledged he/she committed fraud and had been monitoring all these conversations, yet decided not to respond to my many messages and phone calls to resolve this issue.

      • Had plenty of positive experience to be honest. One bad egg doesn't ruin the whole basket.
This is the very first time I had any issues with classified purchases.

        • Numbers still don't stack up though.. you'll need another 50 or so positive transactions to recoup the loss from this one..

          • @randomusername2017: OP paid: (92.5*400) = $370
Assuming this is lost if seller is legit commuting fraud.

Based on the sales the OP is risking the biscuit for, it's 7.5% discount. So per $100, a discount of $7.50.

            To breakeven, that's $370 / $7.5 = 49.3 $100 GC @7.5% discount. 37 GC if OP can get 10%

            Good luck OP

            • @dtxau:

risking the biscuit for, it's 7.5%

Minimal risk @ 4% from a variety of platforms.
The risk is for the extra 3.5% . $35 per $1000

        • +1

Agreed. 99% of OzBargainers are honest, helpful people. It’s the remaining 37% that you have to be wary of

  • It takes a long time to train a milking camel, a lot of persistence, patience, and trusting the camels,

I know we all think that businesses should respond in a timely manner these days, but we could cut camelfarmer some slack seeing that the Authorised Reselling of Coles Gift Cards is most likely to be their side hustle

    • But the problem is , @camelfarmer is not responding to any of the messages or phone calls

  • +1

I feel for you mate, I thought he was genuine when looking at his past ads and other buyers's comments. Lucky for me that he didn't respond to my iniytial comments directly, otherwise I might've bitten the bullet.

Have you spoken to your bank to see if you can do a chargeback? All the best mate.

    • Have enquired with the bank and waiting to hear back from them

  • If you used PayPal friends and family you can contact support to open a dispute.

    • +1

      PayID unfortunately

  • +1

Update: @camelfarmer have made contact overnight and offered to refund full amount, still waiting for the money to hit my bank account though. Subsequent follow-up sms this morning to check whether the refund has been sent or not have been met with silence again. The saga continues for now….

    • Yasss! Good things come to those who wait

      • Unfortunately still waiting…no comms again 😞

  • +2

You'd think @camelfarmer would respond to provide the other side of the story and defend their reputation. Sorry to hear this happened to you OP

    • +1

Yeah he seemed genuine but his actions says otherwise…so I'm not sure…
