    Date of your invoice

    • If your phone needs warranty days after the official warranty ends, still give it a go. Most companies have flexibility unless you approach them Karen style.

Mate your phone will break a day after your warranty period ends.

    Just like any electronic appliance

  • Date on your receipt, so the day you placed and paid for the order.

Just drop the line "Under Australian Consumer Law" they will bend over to help straight away

  • HP PCs have 3 warranty dates none of which is purchase date.

When I used app it told me there were 28 days remaining. If you would like to change date click here. On the one screen displayed it then showed 2 other warranty dates, one of which was expired.

I couldn't see any way to action this further so I told owner of PC to rely on invoice date.

With Lenovo and Dell (I think) displayed warranty date is manufacturing date but at least they have link to page where you can upload photo of invoice to have start date reset to correct date.

  • If you can provide evidence of when the good were taken from JB, that would be when your warranty starts, or when no the be device was turned on, and use started.

What Apple product? If it's an iPhone or iPad, it starts from when you turn it on and activate it, for the first time. You can verify this on Apple's Self Solve website which confirms the warranty start date.

    • This is the correct answer. Warranty is in addition from legal consumer guarantees afforded by the ACL (which may kick in on a different date).

    • It’s a MacBook Air.

    • How can this be? What if I buy something like that and don't turn it on and activate it for 10+ years?

Why are you inventing a situation that would not happen?

        • Well, I'm exaggerating somewhat to make a point, but it is not unheard of for people to buy stuff and not open or use it straight away.

Eg I bought white goods at EOFY and only had them installed a few months later when my renovations were finished.

          • @John Kimble: Why would they bother replying to your ridiculous hypothetical if you're admitting you're using hyperbole to make a point?

      • As you say there could be more to it. But I suspect as long as you activate the device within a couple of years, the Apple warranty will begin from that date. Sure there is probably some provision for if you don’t activate the device for an extremely long period of time after manufacture.

Yes, it confuses me too but it's Apple's Policy and yes, you could theoretically do that and receive Apple's warranty. I had an iMac, a few years ago which, according to the serial number, was manfuactured in 2017 but I didn't buy it until mid 2019. Apple's Self Solve website showed the warranty start date as the date I turned it on and activated it.
