Earning FF Points for Flights through AmEx

Hi guys,

I’m wanting to book trips to Europe and America in the future and was looking at signing up to an Amex. Looks like the 100k sign up bonuses are enough for one way in business class, this seems too good to be true?

Has anyone had any experience/difficulty in booking flights with points or knows if one is better than the other (Amex, Qantas, velocity etc…)

I’d be booking in peak seasons (June-August) would that also be difficult to book? Thanks!

    100k Amex = 50k qff

    You sure that's enough?

    • i believe its 55k one way on qantas economy sydney to london + $250 taxes

business is 145k one way I think and good luck getting a reward seat

      • Best time to try was on Friday.

It was a lot of refreshing but I snagged a return flight to LA (F+J).

  • enough for one way in business class

    Bon Voyage!
don't forget to send a postcard

100k sign up bonuses are enough

    Plus taxes

    difficult to book?

1 year in advance with an extremely flexible itinerary a single business classic reward might be possible on bronze.

  • Arguably the highest yield redemption is the Qantas Oneworld Classic Flight Reward for which you'll find more insight via the AFF community. There's also a comprehensive How To

  • Neither 100k or 50k (which is what 100k amex points is) are enough for a one way business ticket to europe.

  • Qantas points needed for a flight: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/calculators.html

The real challenge is getting the redemption.

    • I find Qantas redemption typically sucks

  • Yes I have experience
Yes some points are better (i.e. Amex as they are flexible)
Yes they are difficult to book as 15 million other Australians have points and are competing for limited reward seats.

  • The rewards business class flights are out there , but hard to come by and by the time you pay the taxes I’m really not sure they are worthwhile. However the 100k points, 8 months spend and $400 travel credit gave me $2200 worth of travel credit in the Amex travel store which I could redeem on any flight I wanted and comes with complimentary travel insurance (plus other perks). This is a pretty good deal for the cost of an annual credit card fee
