After Market Solar Panels with eufy

I’m looking to buy solar panels for my Eufycam 2. The original Eufy panels are like 77 bucks on sale at the moment. But seeing on eBay, there are like aftermarket solar panels for less than 10 bucks.
Anyone tried the after market solar panels?

I imagine it would work.

  • This is from Bunnings for $42 which has great review

  • Hmm. SCV for my vehicle on E bay $38.99. OEM SCV around $540. Would I purchase the E bay item? Never.

  • I've used eBay ones with no problems.

  • I looked on ebay for these supposed solar panels for "under 10 bucks". That would be a price so low you'd have to doubt whether they are any good. And the fact is they don't exist. Where you see a price of under 10 bucks is where they are offering a white solar panel, a black solar panel, or just a cable for connecting a panel to a security camera. The price is only under 10 bucks for just the cable.

The panels (with cable for connecting to the camera). are in the $25 to $30 range. And that is a reasonable price for a solar panel that small, a mount for it, and a cable.

$42 from Bunnings is at the very top end of what is a reasonable price. $77 from uefy is just ripping you off. It is charging way more than a reasonable price knowing that people will choose it and pay that becuse it comes from the original manufacturer.

So its your choice. You can pay a very reasonable price knowing there's some risk because its made in China and its not from the original manufacturer. Or you can pay a barely reasonable price knowing its from Bunnings, who'll stand by their product. Or you can get ripped off to and feel comfortable that its OEM. Its your decision.

    • Oh, and while it might seem a good idea to buy a higher output panel, its probably not. If the genuine eufy panel is only 5W rated, it may do damage to charge it with a 10W panel. The good news in that regard is that any solar panel a chinese supplier claims is 10W, is probably only really 5W.

  • +1

I've bought a few different types of panels from AliExpress (I think 3 different types, 6 all in total). I've had them now for getting close to 2 years, and haven't had an issue with any of them, so whatever you're seeing on eBay is probably going to be fine.

  • Thanks all. Very helpful. I’ve gone ahead and bought the eBay ones :)
