Laptop with Extended Warranty from JB Hi-Fi. How does it work?

A friend bought a laptop with extended warranty from JB. The laptop now won't even power on, and when my friend called JB about it, she was told to send the laptop to the east coast (probably Sydney or Melbourne?) where the repair centre is. She is based in Perth.

This does not sound right to me. I have a feeling JB is just shamelessly trying to fob her off, without fulfilling their obligation to look after her post-sales.

Can I please get your opinions on this matter?

You can search your title and find their detailed Refunds & Warranties guide.

JB HI-FI or the manufacturer will determine, at no cost to the customer, whether the product is faulty and the cause of the fault within a reasonable time frame.

Scroll down to Minimum Voluntary Warranty Policy Guide. It's quite clearly laid out.

If your goods are faulty and you are entitled to a remedy under JB HI-FI’s Minimum Voluntary Warranty Policy, JB HI-FI will bear your reasonable expenses of making a claim under the Policy. This includes arranging and paying for, or reimbursing, the reasonable cost of the transport of the goods to and from your nearest store and/or to any repair agent, provided that you contact us in advance and obtain our prior approval.

    • Thanks for this. The above sounds much better/reasonable, compared to what she was advised by JB via the phone.

She should not have to pay to send the laptop over to another state, when I am sure she paid JB a fair bit of money for the extended warranty.

  • DO NOT BUY IT ITS GARBAGE SCAM

I have learnt it the hard way.

  • No it doesn't, you haven't said how old the laptop is also.. Get your friend to take it to JB if it's in the first year if it's after 1 year he needs to call the warranty number then he drops it off at JB and it's sent away.

Can't remember how many times this short video from the ABC show The Checkout has helped others, you can return anything that in your opinion you would not have bought the item in the first place because it didn't meet your expectations and is not of a reasonable quality or durable. Consumer law is the only law that kinda still cares about us these days… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE8BB-ioNRw
