Dropping Off & Picking Up Inside Commuter Parking

Starting tomorrow I need to drop a relative to train station and pick up later in afternoon. I know there is dedicated drop off area just outside the commuter parking but I thought it's easier to drop inside, much closer to platform, less walk for the relative.

Questions:

If I drive in and drive out in 5 minutes and tap my opal in exit, will they allow me out? Or maybe I should park and tap my opal in and out in train station before exit the carpark?

When I pickup the relative later on the day, and tap on his opal card on exit, will this be ok?

Thank you.

How closely related are they? If it was your sister you probably wouldn't want to kiss them. A step sibling or a cousin is probably okay.

I just change the post, nobody will understand what you are talking about :)

When you say nobody will understand, do you mean it in the same sense as nobody will know who’s kissing who in parking lots?

        Anyhow, I’ll introduce you to…

I am aware of this OZB feature :)

        They do now.

    Not a valid trip

    • There should be occasional those who came in and cancel right, is the gate automatically opened or will you need to deal with the guy in the intercom.

Find out for us and let us know.

        • By technicality they (Wilson Parking at some TfNSW carparks) have to let you out for free in under 10-15 minutes, in case you haven't found a park or don't agree to the terms and conditions posted. But just use the Kiss n Ride and don't piss off people for a couple of metres…

Most car parks let you exit free of charge within 15 minutes. This is incase you enter and can't find a parking spot.

This sounds like the arsehole mums that drop their kids at school in the “kiss and ride” zone. They either park there, get out and walk their kid into the school OR they park in the no stopping zone just so their little Johnny Shitlipz doesn’t have to walk an extra 5~10m to the school gate.

Unless your “relative” is disabled or infirmed, drop them off in the designated area. I am sure the walk saved is not really that significant.

    • I prefer to stay in the car, no parking. Just try to save the 'relative' time as it will be a regular thing and I do a little detour inside the commuter car park is not a big deal for me. I thought if the 'relative' need to commute for 2 hours each time - I can do something just to make it slightly less painful.

Why is 'relative' in quotation marks?

Also, it's literally less than a few minutes' walk to the station? Personally any extra exercise is welcome if I have a long commute ahead

Why is 'relative' in quotation marks?

OP is the relative and this thread is to show the driver.

I don’t understand what’s the big deal in walking few meters.

          • @HardQuiz: Hahaha, I'm the driver, I just follow pegaxs's "relative" - it's something to do with me using the word kiss and ride in original post rather than drop off/pick up.

The walk before/after a 2 hours commute will do them well.

      walk an extra 5~10m

Yeah, but that's an EXTRA 5.22km of walking per year (Mon-Fri every weekend), as saving of 87mins per year, this ought to be a deal post. Reduce walking distance of 5-10m per year to save 87mins of time @ Less Walking.

Just drop them off at the designated spot. FFS.

Same advise advice for the kiss?

      • Yes, except add more tongue.

If they already have to travel 2hrs, I'm sure the extra 15m walk is of no significance. There is a dedicated facility for your exact purpose, probably use that.

  • Which station positions the carpark closer than the dropoff/pickup zone? Hornsby maybe?

If so, sitting in the carpark in the way, double parked, at Hornsby, is a sure-fire way to get honked at. Use the dedicated zone.
