    Going down down down…

Slowly, but it is good to see. Now Nvidia needs to take the hint…

The XT price drops were expected given it's low sale volumes and terrible MSRP value (90% of the XTX price for only ~80% performance), but now the reference XT is ~75% of the XTX price, so it's better value for now.
Just need AMD to fix their drivers and with some further price reductions, they should be really competitive against the 4070 Ti and 4080.

      • xtx is terrible value , xt at $1299 not bad at all considering 6800 xt was more then that last year and when it came out

    • +1

This most recent deal was a week ago. Retailers hodling hard since price drops. Probably hoping hodlers won't wait another few weeks. It's a standoff!

      I mean will we ever get a 130w 4k card lol? Is 300w since 2014 the new norm? 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1680x1050, 192x1080 etc all used 130-160w cards.

Does this mean 8k will be 600w for 10 years?

  • Has AMD fixed the high idle power draw?

    • +1

There's been slight improvements, but I believe it's mainly an issue with certain multi monitor setups and different refresh rates. Check the AMD subreddit.

      • +3

Yeah, was hearing 100W+ idle power draw from initial reviews. That would be dealbreaker for me

        • For comparison, as I'm typing this on my dual monitor system running a new RTX 4070Ti the idle GPU power draw is a mere 4.5W, according to the latest MSI Afterburner. If the sensor is accurate that is super power efficient.

…isn’t there only a $100 price difference between the xt and xtx in the US? Something evidently got very lost in translation

    • +2

Sure is. The XT price works out to $US874 which is below the US MSRP of $900 (moreso if you consider GST, and MSRP's tend to be ex. tax), whereas the XTX is $1178, which is a bit higher than the US MSRP of $1000 even if you take GST into account.

It's nice that Australians are just getting the regular inflated prices that the rest of the world is subjected to instead of the extra inflated prices we usually get slugged with. Almost feels like a discount.

      • +1

Yeah, the XTX only needs to drop about $300 and then Aus prices will actually be competitive with US launch prices! Wow!

    • AMD has dropped XT's prices right now to encourage as much sales as possible prior to releasing the mid-lower tier cards (which is the vast majority of the market).

  • 4080 only $50 more than xtx, a better deal for now.

    • +2

Only for people wanting to use OBS/VR/Ray-Tracing/DLSS3… A bit of a list really.

      • -1

yeah i guess so…but if you can spend 1800 for a graphics card what is $50 right? and 4080 is a better product anyways, maybe marginally worse in pure raster but more than makes up for it with nvdia features

      • and stable drivers. Yes AMD drivers are still bad, I own a 6600xt and experience driver issues often, Go over to the reddit on AMD and read all the posts for yourself.

The more stable drivers are a much bigger factor than memetracing. Definitely worth the price difference if you don't like fiddling around uninstalling/reinstalling drivers in safe mode offline with DDU

        • 6700xt for 16 months.
          Zero issues.

          • @VVamo: You don't play every game out there. Has problems with Unreal engine 4 games and some popular DX11 titles. If you just play Dota 2/Overwatch you'll be fine.

You'd be ignorant to admit it doesn't have a problem with Fortnite & PUBG. Just google/reddit/youtube it. I don't play Fortnite but half of them can't even get it to launch.

              @JimmyNegger:

You'd be ignorant to admit it doesn't have a problem with Fortnite & PUBG. Just google/reddit/youtube it.

So true. Look at all these reports on forums reporting crashes, perfomance regressions, etc: 1 2 3

Oh wait, those are all Nvidia issues. My bad. It's almost as though searching out anecdotes that align with your view isn't a particularly good way to get a sense for overall trends.

If the XTX was $1300 i'd be keen

    • Yeah same. IMO the 7900 XT should just be called 7800XT and be $1100AUD..

    • I'd be keen for $450-700. It's just a gpu at the end of the day. Last 10 years prices have been crazy, it's all gen z know.

  • That card is nice and black! non RGB GPU's are all of a sudden attractive

  • Still terrible value.

The 3070 msrp was around $800aud. Equivalent in speed to last gens flagship (2080ti). This model is equivalent to 3090ti but it costs $1300 not $800
