    • Agreed

  • If you had this paid with a gift card balance, mine did NOT price update. Had to cancel and reorder to get $49.

    • +2

They don't usually until 48 hours after payment. There is T&C's on the website somewhere about it.

    • +1

Mine has updated now and the $10 difference is back in my gift card balance.

    • +2

I didn't want to cancel/re-order in the risk of not getting it on Friday, so they gave me a $10 discount for the next order, good enough I guess.

      • +1

Appreciate all the replies guys, I will be more patient next time :)

  • +17

Playing this game made me wonder whether games were better in the past. Maybe I’m just getting old.

    • +5

Metroid Dread was pretty great and not from too far in the past

    • +28

I mean, games in the past were better tbh. Released more complete, no massive day 0/1 patches, no tacked on microtransactions, no live services, no "roadmaps" on when the game will actually be feature complete. Need I go on? lol

      • +1

That's not my experience with first party Nintendo games. Unless you count amiibo, but they can be easily hacked.

    • All released games are from the past though?

      • +7

Come on mate, don't be obtuse. When referring to the "past", we'd be meaning like 15-20 years ago etc, not like the last 5 or so years.

        • -7

It was a joke, chill old man πŸ˜‚ Games aren't "better" or "worse" these days, theres just more of them.

          • -1

@BeauKilla: They're objectively worse, see loot boxes and DLC

            • -1

@DellDealLols: Objectivity doesn't exist. Anything deemed objective is only this under means of a specific set of governing rules or laws. Video games, cinema, books, etc do not have such laws, hence it is all subjective.

              • -2
                • -1

@DellDealLols: You can't really just "yikes" your way out of a disagreement with an argument as if that makes you somehow superior πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

                  • +1

@Ninternet: You're over here getting all ultra pedantic about Objectivity v Subjectivity in defense of things like predatory DLC/lootboxes being the new normal for vidya games.

                    I feel like objectively, that's a yikes.

                    • @DellDealLols: "Ultra pedantic" (which in itself is another hyperbolic argument) about a word you used to strongly skew an argument in your favour seems fair to me. That's my subjective reasoning.

I never said loot boxes weren't predatory or, to use another uncreative and simplistic term that people love to use in this sphere, "bad".

At the end of the day, video games are an entertainment form. Not much more to it. If you like your old games, just play your old games and let the "market" phase out the ones you say are objectively bad. That's how capitalism works, right?

        • "One time a guy handed me a picture. He said, β€˜Here’s a picture of me when I was younger.’ Every picture is of you when you were younger.
          -Mitch Hedberg

      • +2

There's also no future too, just the present. Lol

    • +1

      Recent good games still exist.

It's just the generic AAA third person open-world-ish action games that are bad, with few exceptions IMO.

    • +10

I think that most single player adventure games now tend to be 80+ hour collectathons with 20 different side quests happening at the same time. Its nice to play a streamlined atmospheric adventure game now and again.

    • +5

I still got to finish it on the game cube πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…

      • +1

I got stuck on the final boss for ages, came back to it after a few years, and thought "I should pick up numbers 2 and 3 now!"

Got a bit of sticker shock when I went to find copies…

        • 2 final boss is more difficult πŸ™‚

    • +3

Still definitely some great games being released these days but yeah, it was just a way different ball game back then. So many timeless classics as opposed to a lot of games these days being forgotten a month or so after release.

    • +1

They were. Especially from 2000 to ~2010. Bioshock, Dead Space, Gears of War, Resident Evil 4, Halo 3, Half Life 2. The list goes on and on. So many games were complete and an absolute blast to play. Just finished Metroid Prime on the Switch and the world design is still brilliant. It feels shorter than I remember but really it's the perfect length.

  • I am not sure why, but I received a $20 promotion against the order, so $29 delivered.

    • probably some old promotional credit that came from a promotion of something you bought

    • Happens to me in day to day life too.

I'd find money notes in washed clothing pockets or forget i've got a winning lottery ticket laying around.

      Comes with old age

  • +2

Big stock shortages in the U.S with this remaster. Amazon pushed plenty of peoples orders back that pre-ordered day 1.

Not sure if it will trickle to our tiny market, but just a heads up.

    • Yeah thats what i was wondering but i think we will be fine considering we are getting it 2 weeks after america did

    • Yeah Nintendo America likes screwing them, just like with Amiibo. Surely they understand the demand….

  • +1

    Great deal!
I never played the original so definitely looking forward to this :)

    • +1

Yeah i havent played the original either but i have heard amazing things so im super excited

  • +10

Just going to buy from BigW for keeping price reasonable

    • -6

you do you but free delivery at amazon

  • doubt you'd get it on launch from Amazon, especially if pre-ordering now

    • Im in new zealand so i 100% wont but i dont really care cause i had amazon credit to use up

    • +1

Yep I find with Amazon pre-orders I almost always get it the day after launch. They always seem to ship stuff out very late, often in the evening of the launch day. Doesn't bother me much, but good to keep in mind.

  • +11

Use code 5OFFPICKUP (after selecting a pick-up location) for another $5 off

    • -1

Geez someones had an arm cannon up their butt for too long.

You're comparing games that was originally 20 years apart.

Ease up Karen and just enjoy them for what they are.

      • +2

didn't respond with " well excuse me, princess"

        you had one job!

        • Why did you respond childishly to a childish comment.

This is why the internet is how it is.

  • +2

Already pre-ordered weeks ago. Glad Amazon AU used price match cheapest now.

I heard physical copies are sold out everywhere at USA unlikely here.

    • You never know.

USA trends have followed suit here on many occasions.

      A few examples include:

      • Pokemon Box Ruby/Sapphire for Gamecube. Used to be a $100 game but every since youtubers have been saying its a rare game in the states its been climbing up in prices a lot now $300-400 on eBay.

      • Mario all stars on the Switch used to be everywhere to buy in Australia but now its dried up and hard to find. Going to $100 give or take on eBay.

    • +1

Yeah, most likely won't happen here given the market size.

  • Finally! Ended up pre-ordering at JB with some discounted gift cards, guess I'll have to go in and cancel that. Thanks OP.

    • Any chance JB would price match?

      • I think they do price match Amazon as long as it's shipped and sold via Amazon AU, but would likely need to wait for release and hopefully Amazon still has it for that price (assuming it won't jump back to $59 for whatever reason).

Cheaper via Amazon for me anyway, the $5 off pickup code worked and I have a bunch of the 10% Choice gift cards from those cashrewards promos banked up.

      • +1

JB HiFi Live Chat matched the price for me yesterday after I provided a link to the Big W deal. They provide a link to a shopping cart with the discounted price.

        • I thought they didn't price match pre-orders, good to know for future!

  • Is this going to be a limited release?

    • +3

Nintendo has not stated that it is so probably not

  • +1

Tempted to get this, as I tried playing on the original Gamecube, but the controls and map just did my head in.

  • +1

Never got around to finishing this on GameCube, now's my chance.

    • +4

Unfortunately the GameCube can't play Switch carts

      • That doesn’t even make sense

        • +1

Switch cartridge won’t fit in a GameCube.

          Explaining a joke kills it.

  • They did a remaster of just the first one?

    • +1

Rumoured that the second and third are coming later but just as HD ports.

      • They will have to do a genuine remake of the third one, if they decide to port it at all, as it relied heavily on the Wiimote Plus.

  • Hi OP, have you seen any pokemon switch games for sale?

  • I pre-ordered and it said expected delivery date to be Monday 6 - Tuesday 7th, not the release date of this Friday 3rd. Do Amazon have some policy around this?

    • If when you ordered it it said it would not be on release date then there is nothing you can do about that i dont think

    • Cancel your order and head to big w or price match at JB or EB

You can also try your luck and see if you can get a voucher from Amazon for the delay

  • +2

    Currently out of stock :(

    • Seems like the deal has ended there is a copy under buying options for $58 but the $49 deal seems to be gone :(

    • +2

Surprised that a Metroid title went OOS for preorders. About time this series got some proper recognition!

      • getting amazing reviews almost all 10/10s and its not a full price release and it was a great deal for a pre order

        • Yeah there's a lot going for it for sure, especially being released digitally first at the start of the month so people have had time to give it a proper look.
Very excited to go through this game again, it's absolutely stellar.

  • anyone know if it much different from the gamecube release?

    • +2

Same game play, updated controls and much better graphics. Graphics have been properly overhauled, not just a HD filter.

  • saying unavailable for me?

  • Does this game come shrink-wrapped?

    • It depends it might or it might not you really never know with amazon
