Adding Wi-Fi Access Point to Secure Work Network

Basicly im working remote on a project and we have lan ports inside (secure work network) if we add a wifi access point is it really that simple?

How to you get people to sign onto a secure wifi then sign onto the secure network.

    is it really that simple?

To be sacked on the spot for making the secure network unsecure without permission? Yes it is as simple as that.

If you have to ask, you shouldn't be doing this.

Talk to your work IT, ask if there is a solution available. More often than not, there is, they just need the approval from management.
They might have a VPN solution you can use for remote working. (Most companies that are not 'secret' or 'confidential' should?)

Much better than circumventing their security and getting fired!

  • Agree with above comments.

But if it is really a secure network, the lan ports would be disabled or have security controls in place so if you connect an unauthorised device it won’t give them any access and will trigger an alert for the NOC/SOC.

  • Yeah, please don't start just plugging wireless access points into Ethernet ports - IT will have a breakdown

  • Network admin worth their salt will know in under 60 seconds there is a rouge AP on the network and will shut that $hit down.
You will also have a talking to quickly after that.

Speak to your IT. Let them implement an appropriate solution.
