Which Energy Company to Choose? [Guildford NSW]

Hi guys,

Just moving into my first apartment coming week. We are young couple and we do not have any previous usage estimate.

Which energy company should we go for? Any cheapest to go for if we lock-in for one year? Any suggestions/recommendations?

This is me first time getting into a separate apartment, I have usually shared it with other peeps.

Thanks.

  • The one with the biggest sign up bonus.

    • Any recommendation?

  • If it’s an apartment it might be on an embedded network and you might not have much choice.

    • It's the unit in one of those red bricked buildings
Btw, would the water usage be free or do I have to pay for it?

Nothing is free unfortunately. Our apartment we were locked into our utility providers (gas, electricity, water, internet etc)
Can't comment on NSW providers but our house in Victoria, we chose GloBird Energy for gas and Tango for electricity

  • Got a cashback account with either cashreward or shopback? Use their affiliated econnex search based on average usage, sign up, get cashback and then look for a better deal with your first bill usage.

And double check if you have a gas supply, like for centralised gas hot water heating

    • $112 econnex cashrewards bonus - they recommend power shop? Ever heard of them?

      Should I take it?

      • Yes and up to you

I am with Powershop….was with Dodo for a decade but left after a dispute…. and the bills are about the same. Powershop certainly doesn't have any negatives that the others don't share. And their bills are full of detail… moreover, they did their homework and straightened out the issue which caused me to leave Dodo. The problem is, nowadays, that whatever promises are made at sign-up, and whatever the rankings are in Week 1, everything can change by Week 2. As of today, I am content. But that's a judgment after only three months. Check back in a year!

Not AGL bastards. I switched to Origin Energy flexi rate.

    • I was (and still am) wth AGL, wanted to move, shopped around & they still came out on top.

FWIW, Origin were way more expensive, for us anyway.

Research the rates on the energy made easy website. If you go with PowerShop, use a referral code from Ozbargain for $75 credit.

    • Can I use it on top of $112 econnex cashreward bonus?

      • No, as you will be signing up at different places
