  • Q: What control panel do these plans use?

These plans are hosted on the DirectAdmin control panel. You can see a demo at the following link:
    https://www.directadmin.com/demo.php
    Please see the “Users demo”

Q: How come these plans are cheap?

There are a few factors which allow us to reduce the cost and pass the savings onto you. First, these plans use DirectAdmin instead of cPanel. cPanel has been increasing their price each year, for the past 4 years and now charge almost $0.40 per cPanel account per month, whereas DirectAdmin is still licensed per server instead of per control panel. This means we can host any number of accounts and still pay the same license fee, greatly reducing the cost to the end user. The second reason is that these accounts are hosted on servers in the US, which are considerably cheaper than here at Aussie DC’s. So, you still get great speed and performance but at a much better value.

Q: Do these plans include free migration?

Unfortunately, due to the price point involved, we are unable to offer free migration assistance. However, if your website is a simple static website, we may be able to assist for a small fee ($10). If you have a WordPress based website, there are a number of tools that allow you to backup and move your website over without much effort. You can request migration assistance for a small fee of $15.

Q: Can you migrate from cPanel?

There isn’t a proper automated process to perform cPanel to DA migration but we can certainly try! There will be a $15 charge for this service. You can file a ticket for migration once you have signed up for the service.

Q: Do you still offer cPanel hosting?

Yes, we do. Please check our website for cPanel hosting plans.

Q: How long have you been in business?

We have been running as a web host under the name of QualityHostOnline.com since May 2001, that’s 22 years now. We have a good number of aussie customers under that brand but many of them wanted a local website running under local currency. Hence, we setup HostingBee and haven’t looked back!

    Q: Where are you based?

We are based in Adelaide and our local office times are 9am to 5pm (Adelaide time).

  • These guys are amazing — I recently had my main website moved over to them and their response time was crazy fast, even at 11PM on a Saturday!

    • Hey! Thank you for choosing Hostingbee!

Hi HostingBee rep. I'm currently a client of yours. Can you explain to the OzBargain community during a recent outage that lasted almost a week, why I was kept in the dark with nil comms, nor offered any compensation?.. I'm sure this had an affect on more of your client base than just me. Then to add insult to injury following the outage, my account had missing domains and web sites with broken links. For a web hosting company claiming to have over 2 decades experience, I expected more from you. Because of this, I've begun relocating my sites.

    • Hello Jameso, the outage lasted a few days due to a failed drive in the raid array. Then the OS reload failed due to a bad distro at the DC level. None of this was under our control and we were waiting on the hands at the DC to get the hardware back up and running. We do perform daily backups and restored all accounts as soon as the hardware was back online. If you haven't already opened a ticket, please open one and we will see what is going on with your accounts. We also provided compensation to all customers who opened tickets for SLA compensation. We fully understand your frustration but failed hardware is something which is not within our control. We were unable to provide real time updates as our own website was also down. I do hope that answers all your questions. Again, please open a ticket and we will be more than happy to compensate your, as per our SLA.

        1. Why would you host all your customers on the same server as your primary company website and billing/support platform? That really doesn't suggest an experienced out fit at all. Do you only run one server from 20+ years experience and customers?

        2. Why would you not contact all your customers about such a large downtime as a courtesy, and offer compensation to everyone - not just those who complained? Your target audience I imagine is paying business customers. What kind of compensation did you offer for an 'almost one week' outage?

        3. What kind of Hardware failure knocks off a professional host for such a long time? genuinely curious as most hardware issues can be overcome by spinning up a new virtual machine or server extremly quickly (<1 hour)

I am not having a go at you, I find above users post concerning for new customers

"None of this was under our control".

It seems to be under the control of every other web host who doesn't allow hardware faults to cause multi-day disruptions to service…

Based off this Whirl Pool thread, I'd avoid:

          https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9kpy8z7x

          • @besttraveltech: Thank you for pointing out this thread. This server had a NVMe based RAID array. One of the drives failed and caused the whole array to just 'disappear'. As with most hosts, we cannot access server hardware directly and are reliant on the DC hands to replace drives, in this case the DC was Hivelocity. They have generally been great but in this case, it was a complete disaster and has already been passed onto senior management at Hivelocity. After the first OS reload, we restored all the accounts but couldn't get ioncube to load. The DC passed the issue to CloudLinux and cPanel teams. They couldn't fix it so we were left with another broken OS, which the DC claimed to be the result of a bad distro. A second OS reload had to be done. We did a second restore and things started to get back to normal. We sincerely apologise to everyone that was affected and have been working hard to restore services to all accounts. In hindsight, we do agree it wasn't a good idea to host our own website on the same server and will be moving it off soon. Outages do happen, even at Microsoft and Facebook, no-one is immune to them.

Another thing to add is this: If you want a cheaper service, there will need to be some compromises. We can add multiple layers of redundancy. However, each new layer will add to the cost and make the service more expensive. With the default setups we use, there hasn't been an event like this one for a very long time. RAID arrays are generally fault tolerant but it did fail this time. The DC is still investigating the RFO but forensics take time. This will certainly be a learning experience for us!

        • @FsYKI, have tried to explain that the DC is still investigating what caused the raid array to fail when just one drive had failed. We will know more in the coming weeks. Yes, we do agree that hosting the company website on the same server was not a good idea, just a means to reduce the overall cost. However, we will be moving the site over to an HA cloud shortly.

We couldn't 'spin' up a VM as the DC was working on the hardware. The backups were local to that machine so they couldn't be restored to another location. This of course is another way to keep the cost down, and offer a cheaper service. As I've said before, we can add multiple backups and redundancies but each will increase the cost.

Let's be honest, after COVID, and with prices increasing everywhere, people are looking at where they can save. Most customers want a lower priced solution at this time and we are trying to provide one. That said, we will certainly learn from this event and try to come up with a better solution that does not increase the price too much.

  • What is recurring cost. First year would be $13, how much will it be next year onwards?

    • Hey Sirajs, I am not sure how you calculated $13. I will post a full price matrix for all plans shortly.

  • Here is the full pricing matrix

    • A reminder that this pricing table is the kind of description that is required in your post. The original advertised special prices (quoted below) are misleading because you cannot purchase, for example, a DA-M plan for $1.59 for 1 month.

      Today’s Price | $1.59/mo | $1.99/mo | $2.39/mo | $2.79/mo

From now on, we will remove your post as unobtainable if you continue to publish misleading pricing tables.

      • Understood, we will add this information onto the post from this point on.

  • I am currently with accuwebhosting and last week I renewed enterprise+ for the year. Do you bring similar offers every year?

Also if I go for 1 year plan, rather then 2 or 3 year. what would be the recurring fee next 1 year for DA plus?

    • Hey Sirajs, thank you for your interest! The recurring price will not change, whatever plan or billing cycle you choose. You just save more by choosing a longer cycle.

  • What if you sign up but want to increase plan my later? Will special price apply then?

    • Yes, tempted to give this a try but probably at first on the base level to see how things go and then upgrade to DA Plus if the intro rates are still available?

      • +1

Yes you can certainly do that and the discount will still apply.

    • Since this pricing is based on a discount, and not a promo code, you can upgrade while keeping the discount.

  • Do your instances support SSH? Can I use them like EC2 without hosting websites?

    • Yes, they do support SSH on the Plus and Ultra Plan. However, they are designed for hosting. Are you looking at using the account as a backup repository? That would not be allowed under our TOS.

    • Extensive exclusions here: https://hostingbee.au/company/legal.html, including:
      - Blanket exclusion of 5 pages of WordPress cache software
      - No storing old email
      - No web Sites offering download files
      - No FTP serving
      - No Banners for other sites
      - Video files limited to 50MB
It's a limited service, reflected in pricing.

      • Let me clear these up for you:

        • We do generally allow WP cache as long as it's not excessive.
        • Normal email is allowed, you're just not allowed to store backups.
        • FTP is allowed for normal website usage. No hosting services allow you to operate a public FTP server on a shared hosting account.
        • We dont generally limit video file usage but it is there in the TOS to ensure compliance.

These are pretty much standard across the hosting industry to ensure fair usage for all customers, so a few users do no hog server resources. In fact, our CPU, RAM and IO limits are much higher than the competition.

People do realise servers are not cheap. So to make the service affordable for everyone, there has to be some limitations.

        • From your TOS:
          - "We do not allow any WordPress caching modules on our shared or reseller hosting services."
          - "Shared hosting space may not be used for storage …emails…"
          - "Shared hosting space may not be used for storage … including … FTP hosts."
          - "On Personal Plans, each individual audio / video file should not be larger than 20 MB. On Business Plans each file can be up to 50 MB."

You do not differentiate between between public and private FTP serving in your TOS.

It's important that customers have a good idea of what they can and can't do with any hosting service. For example, a small club website that offers video instruction, those who need to make files available by ftp, people that want to store a few years of email online, or improve the speed of their WordPress site with caching, would violate your TOS. It's nice that you don't generally enforce some terms, but that's no guarantee for the future.

My point isn't about the value of the bargain, nor the quality of the service you offer, but the suitability of the service for different use cases.

          • @sceptical: Let me explain how this works.

We do NOT police the server or its accounts. Only accounts that are failing a standard fair usage policy get flagged, due to the clear limits that can be seen under CloudLinux / your control panel. For example, if your account is repeatedly using too much IO, CPU or RAM. This would mean something is wrong with that account or just that it needs more resources. We then contact the customer and explain what is happening and try to work out what needs to be done. As explained above, our resource limits are way ahead of the competition and have hardly ever needed to be changed.

I would also like to add, the TOS are pretty standard throughout the hosting / ISP industry and are based on a fair usage policy. Nothing will need to be done 99% of the time. These terms are only there for the less than 1% they need to be enforced.

So in plain terms, if you are running a standard website there is nothing to worry about. Yes, you can use cache plugins and most customers do. Yes, you can store email online and that isn't an issue unless you start storing your whole video / audio library as backup.

We've been doing the same for over 20 years and haven't had an issue with the TOS enforcing yet and thats not about to change in the future.
