Citizen Men's Mechanical C7 Series Automatic Watch NH8390-20L $169.99 Delivered @ Costco (Membership Required)

390

This C7 series comes with a hint of nostalgia as it is a tribute to the Crystal Seven from 1965. The original collection, now collector’s pieces, was revolutionary, featuring hardened mineral glass for the first time. The original model has been reinvented to add some contemporary functionality and style. A highlight is in the heptagon shaped day window frame and indices. Although the style shows a nod to its earlier counterpart, the new version has a very smart, modern presentation. With a cosmopolitan black calf leather strap, a dashing dark blue dial and a silver stainless steel 40mm case, this 21 jewel model is unbeatable for its accessible price point. Features 3 hands, day and date. Powered by automatic 8200 movement and proving water resistance up to WR50/5 bar usable for still water swimming and finished with a mineral crystal glass, this throwback timepiece retains all the best of the original, and more.

  • So… hard… to… resist (at this price) :-).

Anyone got one from Costco and Starbuy deals las year and like to give us a review?

I bought this watch few years ago when it was on sale for $249. No doubt it is a beautiful watch, but bear in mind it is a mechanical watch and the main spring needs to be sufficiently wound the keep the accuracy.
The watch automatically winds to give you 1 day worth of power if you wear the watch for 8 hours or more, if not you have to manually wind the watch which will give you around 50 hrs of run time.
I have seen the watch usually lags by 20secs daily if you don’t manually wind the watch. By the end of 1 week, the watch is out by around 2mins.

That's not unusual for an automatic watch though. Don't go crazy manually winding it, that's mainly used just to get it running after it's stopped. A few winds, set the time & put it on your wrist.

Definitely on the upper end of deviation for a mechanical but considering the price it's a killer deal

      • A lot of faffing about though considering I can buy a quartz watch and forget about the battery for 10 years.

        • Mechanical watches are definitely a lifestyle choice.
          Not for everyone.

          • @O15: Who needs a watch when you've got a phone.

            • @WatchNerd: Watches aren't everyone's thing. I still like them, although I haven't worn one for a few years. It's a bit easier to take a sneak peek at your watch than your phone if you've got something time critical to be aware of.

        • You'd still have to correct the time occasionally more than likely. I just had to do my G-Shock this morning as it was a bit over a minute fast. Probably been a while since I've had to update the time on it though.

          • +1

@MonkDog: I keep my G-Shock running a minute fast anyway so the hourly chime goes off 1 minute before the actual hour. It's very handy.

    • Not new to automatic watches, so that doesn't sound overly problematic to me.

Was wondering how it looked and how it sat on the wrist from someone who had one, as specs don't always tell how well it actually sits on the wrist and online photos/videos don't necessarily give you a good idea of how it looks in real life.

    • Yeah have you seen the people who have more expensive watches and put them in a box where there's a holder that rotates the watch for you? That's pretty much the reason behind it.

It's ten past 11, and the meeting has been going for an hour already. The Design Thinking team are talking about "product excellence" and "going the extra mile for customers". You look at your watch and think "Bah, CITIZEN knew more about product excellence and going extra miles than these losers, and they knew it before they were born" Then the cute girl in the Change Management team writes a quick note, folds it and slides it across the table to you. "This is boring. Do you have plans for lunch? If not I am free"… You look up and she smiles at you. You look at your watch again. Just fifty more minutes…… Citizen Men's Mechanical C7 Automatic NH8390-20L. Stainless steel on Black Calf leather.

    Beautiful.

    • Golly. Imagine if you'd been wearing a Rolex.

      • One of the best comments I have come across on OZB in my last few years on the forum. Love the watch by the way.

Your Girlfriend just needs to be one thing- smoking hot, the girl everyone at school would have killed for back in the day, so gorgeous that all who glance at her immediately want to see her naked, want to ravish her for hours, want to show her off to their exes, and hate your f——— guts for being the lucky bastard that gets to do all that with her.

Your Wife, different story, that's a logical decision, it's not about looks as much as its about her demeanour, her intelligence, her education, her parents, her siblings, her personality, and all those elements that go into the biggest decision you'll make in your personal life.

"Rolex" is akin to "Cheerleader" or "Prom Queen", so that's half the Girlfriend battle right there. Submariner, Explorer, GMT, Daytona, Datejust….that's the "blonde", the "redhead", the "brunette", and all the different flavors of hotness. Pick whichever one you like, but you know it when you see it and so does every other guy- she's drop-dead gorgeous. Man, what is she doing with you?

When you get to other brands like "Omega" (too much makeup) or "Tag Heuer" (wallflower) or "Tudor" (wannabe) or "Grand Seiko" (the band geek) it requires getting under the hood for all those Wife considerations like the "movement", the "build quality", the "heritage", and all that other stuff. You know it when you see it and so do your friends- nice girl, you two are perfect for each other.

You buy a Rolex because for once in your life you want to do the blue-eyed blonde Head Cheerleader and make sure everyone notices you as you walk her around. You buy one of these off-brands if you want a safe and uninspired relationship with a practical woman who can make a decent meatloaf.

Just that nobody notices watches :) anymore. Besides the CEO that has an actual watch (I did not manage to see what it is, I just think it has a coke bezel as I saw it from some meters away) everybody else has a smartwatch, I am probably the next in line and I am 2 levels below.

Also if a Casio Duro is good enough for Bill…

I would say just wear the watch that makes you happy… do not do it for the "notices" as you will be VERY disappointed.

I would actually be surprised if most people could even tell you what type of watch most of them are (pilot, diving, dress, GMT, mechanical, automatic, quartz etc).

@misu p: f91w , good enough for Obama and Osama, good enough for me.

          • +1

@misu p: I disagree. I've got a couple of watches that I have received numerous positive comments about.

I think that with so many people wearing smartwatches that a nice analog watch does get noticed.

            • @Astronaut Joe: Just curious as it never happened to me. Did anybody actually recognize the watch? Would it have made a difference that it was a Rolex or not or was it about how the watch looks?

              • @misu p: No, they didn't recognise them, it was just about how they looked. If it were a Rolex I think people would assume it was a Bali special given how common they are compared to the genuine article.

I've been tempted to get a Seiko Daytona Mod, I wonder if that would fool anyone!

          • @misu p: i've never been complimented on my watches but i do notice everyone else's. and the only person i've ever seen wearing a bund strap also happens to be a pretty interesting character ;)

  • what a bargain but i dont have the membership????

    • Ditto…..hey Deepak, will you price beat for all us loyal Starbuy customers on here that like this watch?

  • I was just thinking lately that I would like a blue dial watch. I was picturing more of a chronograph style and eventually I'll probably get one, but in the meantime, this will do nicely. Sold!

Definitely from a different generation but anyone else think this thing looks hideous? 😅 What am I missing, ya'll are raving about this one but I feel like I'm having FOMO.. 😪

Edit: Okay, not going to lie, the colour is bangin' from this video.. Although, still looks like a watch I'd rarely get any wear time out of..

    • +3

It's almost like people have different tastes hey.

      • Apparently not here on OzB (except myself).. 😅

I even went through the same models, previous OzB sales comments and everytime it's posted everyone raves about it.. 😅

  • Out of stock, missed out, damn
