Watch case material = All resin (except for the steel backplate).
Lens = Resin.

The $20USD Casio beater is back in stock.
WatchNerd has reminded me it's been at this price regularly enough now (a year according to 3x camels). But still a good deal for a beater watch IMO.
Maybe a $30 Casio is all you need. Maybe you don't want to take that precious Seiko outdoors or on a travel trip.

Historical all time low of $27.99 and I swear I saw the price jump up once, but the graph shows it has been steady at $30 for a year now.

I am not an expert on analog watches but in my opinion it's a good designed watch face which is easy to read. The hour/minute hands stand out and the numbers are large and easy to read quickly. The watch is entirely made out of resin even the lens.
Warning: This watch does not have Lume or a Backlight so is not readable without a light source. It is not a G-shock so won't be as tough as one but it has 100m water resistance. Battery life is 3 years on SR626SW.

Battery is easy to change according to this article: https://www.richardperrett.com/watch-reviews/best-value-watc…

Just be aware you might affect the water resistance if you change the battery yourself. If you are careful enough putting it back together I would say that's good enough for basic water resistance. If you just need it to survive washing your hands you won't need to bother with pressure testing.

    Batteries ‏ : ‎ 1 AA batteries required …

    • LOL.

  • I honestly started to think quartz (especially solar-quartz) is a feature, not a bug. If you use multiple watches it has that pick-up-and-go feature.

The rotating bezel I find it useful on watches that have it. The lume is fun to have, however, I have not used it ever for anything but having fun.

At $30 is fine (it is quite big btw), at $70 I would go $40 more and get better watches.

    • The lume is fun to have, however, I have not used it ever for anything but having fun.

I actually just copy pasted the "no lume on this" from the last deal. But actually a comment on the other deal said theirs had lume so I looked into it.
Looks like it depends on the version, some have lume on the hands only and some have lume on both the hands and the numbers as well.
From what I've heard though if you get the one with lume on just the hands, it's almost non existent (very dark) so I just say "no lume" so people don't expect it.

    • Oh yes, totally. Quartz by any sensible metric is just better. It's a watch. It has one job, i expect it to do it well.

Watches are frankly redundant accessories. If you're NOT a boomer, it's kinda unlikely you're wearing a watch.

I have 3 autos, 2 quartz and 1 smart watch (and a fitness tracker I wear on the opposite arm!) and it IS kinda annoying to wind/adjust the autos but I still cycle through most of my watches because it's about wearing what makes me happy for that day.

/TLDR wear something that makes you happy.

  • My partner has the smaller version of this watch (Casio LRW200H-7E2)
It feels very cheap, the band is stiff even after wearing in, the bezel is stiff enough to not move by itself but it doesn't take much to accidentally move it - its multi-directional as its just friction based.

She uses it primarily for water activities, to be fair its been pretty good for her. Never had any issues with it and seems to keep time pretty accurately.
Easier to read than a digital watch when we're out in full sunlight, lume is ok.

    • It feels very cheap, the band is stiff even after wearing in,

Yeah that's expected with cheaper Casio's, either something like this MRW or the digital F91-W. The cheaper DW5600 squares also come with a resin strap, but I think in that case it's because they want to make it closer to "the original" square.
I have had a few Casio cheapies, the stiff resin band feels like that at first but once you get used to it comfort isn't really an issue IMO. I guess it does depend on how the fitting is though. If the punched holes don't line up for you, you can usually get a nice fit by moving it forward and back on your wrist so it isn't too tight.
And you are right the resin doesn't soften up even after years of use, but at the same time I have never had one degrade or break on me. I do try to keep my watches on the cleaner side of things though.

the bezel is stiff enough to not move by itself but it doesn't take much to accidentally move it - its multi-directional as its just friction based.

Regarding the bezel, I don't really have much experience with analog watches but since it resin you would rather it moved a bit when it took a hit, compared to being fixed/hard to move and it taking a chip out of it right? At least that's how I would prefer it, just a minor realignment of the bezel is better than wearing/damage.
Most mainstream consumers wouldn't really have a use for the bezel anyway so might not bother fixing it at all. The only thing I can think of which is a common possible use is using the bezel as a timer for the minute hand, but then when done consumers again won't bother aligning it after lol.

      • Do the plastic Casios have replacable bands?

  • It looks so much alike with pro trek prt-b70.
That resin band is exactly the same design

  • Yaasss, my first beater.

    • If you want an even cheaper digital beater I recommend the Skmei 1628 - US$9.17 + GST delivered.

        Thanks @WatchNerd.

But I think I'll have to reference your previous post, we definitely have different tastes.. 😅

  • One Amazon warehouse stock left with "minor scratch on glass" for $24.

Otherwise Amazon US is the only option. Marking as out of stock.

  • Anyone know what's the time frame on the back orders?

    • +1

If you order now it says arrives 14th March.

      • I don't know how they work it out, but that may be current order.. I have already backordered mine but no news yet.. Thought they might have a system to allocate your indicated 3 extras to the first 3 who backordered or something.. 😅

  • It's back with 3 left in stock.

  • Hey @WatchNerd,

Just randomly. Know of any decent watch boxes to look out for that's normally on sale or popular amongst the OzB gang?

    TIA. <3
