Do OzBargainers with similar tools think these clean as well as if somebody came out with a big huge bulky machine?

    • +4

They're very close to the large machines, obviously not as deep of a clean and requires a few more passes to accomplish the same task but I've done my whole house with one of these and it did a great job. Was amazing to see the difference in the colour of the carpet.

This is the video I watched before purchase that made my mind up on getting one:

      • Thanks for providing your personal experience…. And for the link, I have seen that channel a few times and am watching your link now :)

These machines are pretty good for the money. I reckon a skilled operator with one of these would produce the same results as an average commercial operator. The bonus is that you've got the machine yourself, you can use it whenever you like and you can spend more time getting a good result.

I don't think it will clean as much as a commercial machine, but it still does a good job.

It's much cheaper long term than a commercial job, and more convenient. But it definitely takes longer

It's amazing how much a vacuum doesnt get out. All the oils and sweat can't be sucked out

Goodguys commercial is $437. Does pretty good. Cleaned the whole house. Each room does take a few refills. Have used it for 2 summers. Takes around 24 hrs to fully dry. Very useful for the couch when your baby throws up her milk!

    • Thanks, how do we login to goodguys commercial?

What cleaning solution do you guys use?
Do you have to use their product? or is that just nonsense to make you buy theirs?…..like printer ink/toner.

BISSELL Wash and Refresh Carpet Cleaning Formula Blossom and Breeze is what I've been using. Haven't tried anything else as it worked really well with this carpet cleaner. Also makes the carpet and the room smell really good.

Use any carpet shampoo. I use a commercial solution - Agar low foaming carpet shampoo - which I got from Godfreys. https://agar.com.au/product/hf-low-foam/

As that one is a commercial cleaning product, having a pleasant bouquet is not a priority but it certainly doesn't have an offensive smell. It just smells like a freshly shampood office carpet. The smell lasts a day or two as it's drying and that's it.

Use any carpet cleaning solution. There are recipes for home made ones available online, which are usually a combination of
      -Clothes washing detergent
      -Fabric softener
      -Maybe some antibacterial floor cleaner
      -Lots of water

My recommendation is use WAY less than what they recommend. You really don't need much to clean with. If there's a stubborn stain, I would use a spray on stain remover beforehand. If there's plenty of dirt, I would put some diluted solution in a spray bottle and spray around and agitate with a brush. Even if you use straight water in the Bissell, it gets plenty out

I have one of these. I use a homemade concoction for the carpet, and the Bissell formula for the couches.

Amazing how much dirt it drags out of the carpet. Does a very good job with my fabric couches too.

It saved me the other week, when my toddler decided to do a poo on the carpet.

I've got this. Pretty great with cleaning carpet. The spot clean is useful too, but it's worth mentioning that the rollers keep going and can heat things up if left on the floor for a prolonged period and i would be concerned regarding excessive carpet wear on that spot. Slightly disappointing. A button to deactivate the rollers would have been welcome for when you're exclusively spot cleaning.

Had a Bissell for several years - great investment.
Kids, Pets, clumsy adults… If you have them you'll find a use for it.

I would say they are more intended as a 'maintenance' machine compared to a commercial cleaner. If you maintain the carpet shampooing fairly regularly, and clean up spills with it quickly, stuff doesn't work its way in so deep that only a commercial cleaner can remove it.

Also, hot tip - don't buy Bissell branded carpet shampoo. Go to Bunnings and buy the big container of "Rug Doctor" carpet shampoo that is sold with the hire machine. Better value dollar-per-liter.
