Kayo Forcing Updates to Stop People Using Their App?

Hoping to check in with the brains trust about what the story is with Kayo, they have to be the only streaming service that cares what hardware you are using to watch their streams, it makes no sense? It seems that this season I can't stream to my Vodafone TV, so I decided to finally side load the apk, but even though it was uploaded only a few days ago, it seems that Kayo has already updated their app and is forcing everyone to update their apps in turn.

Aside from anyone providing any experience in this area in regards to a potential solution, wtf is going on with Kayo seeming to actively stop paying customers from using their app? I've had trouble with using a firestick, Vodafone TV, and even foxtel's own sh!tty go box or whatever that last abomination was. On top of that they don't want you to cast which you would think should work for anything, but they are actively screwing people around with this. Thanks for listening to me vent.

Australian developers and product owners,.what else lol

    • But people trying to actively hamstring their own services and users? Just doing nothing would be fine, really

    • Most likely outsourced. Telstra don't care about Australia

      • I do t get it, firstly it's Foxtel, not just Telstra, and second Telstra doesn't care about Australia? They are the front running Australian telco.

  • Same.
Can't cast from the android app like I use to, to various android based tv/devices (but can cast fine from the Foxtel app), even with latest app update ..casting was 99% of my usage.
Vodafone tv side loaded app doesn't work.

I'm assuming they are trying to reduce subscriber nunbers ?

    • The only logical thing I can think of is they only want people watching the footy from their mobiles because otherwise they aren't buying foxtel anymore. The news flash if they haven't worked it out is no one is buying foxtel anyway.

Are people with Chrome casts having the same problem?

Just sideload the new kayo app, the newest version they updated to on the 7th march is 2.0.2, i have 6 vodaphone boxes (mine, kids, and grandparents) so have to regularly keep kayo updated, remotely.
Keep this link book marked and download the latest version whenever it stops working and requires an update
      https://m.apkpure.com/kayo-sports/au.com.kayosports
      I can confirm it works

I'm on Fire TV stick and yeah amount of updates are getting annoying really . Like almost everyday now . Luckily sideloading works so far .

price increase plus crippling usability? My paranoia is telling me this is an unoffocial tactic to get people to drop Kao and go to Foxtel Now - which, oh wow, has a $59 'all you can eat' special going on right now.

  • Lots of app issues since v2 was released. Heaps of discussion over at whirlpool.

    • How long ago was v2 released?

      • Last week or two

  • This is why you should buy a mainstream streaming device like Apple TV or Chromecast.

    • I was going to pull the trigger when the 4k CC was 57 bucks, but I asked a friend if he wanted one and he didn't get back to me until after they sold out. I wasn't that fussed because actually the VTV does everything, aside from being f'd around by "streamotion" aka fox. Those people are Satan, from the top down

  • Fired up the kayo via Kodi on Xbox this week for first time since V8s finished up last year. It didn't want to work at first but it was due to slyguy update that was needed. No idea what the update was for
    .

    • I have heard of a few people using Kayo through Kodi but until now I haven't had to bother with it as I could just cast. I do have Kodi on there already for local streaming so I'll have to look it up. Let me know if you have a link to the plug in?

Search for Matt Huisman, I found it on whirlpool. Maybe Xbox specific or may have other versions?
        .

        • Yes was just there, it was quite straightforward, didn't have to get off the couch. Haven't logged in just yet but will try shortly.

          • @Jackson: @Jackson
Aaaand, didn't work today. It worked two days ago
            .

        • Kodi is available on many platforms, including Raspberry Pi, PCs, Android mobile and Google TV (including chromecast). Kodi was originally called XBMC (XBox Media Centre), but changed their name a long time ago, because it moved to so many platforms. I'll +1 Matt's plugin, makes the experience so much better.

    • Same, loaded this yesterday on voda box and got working again.

      • As long as it doewsn sh!t itself at 7.30 on Thursday

      • Silly question but how do you load it? I have a Vodafone's box but only ever use it for kayo. Is there a browser on there?

        • I use the app 'send files to tv' and send it from my Android phone, where I download the APK

          • @SBOB: Thanks, will try that.

    • Hey I just tried this last night, and for some reason when I install it I don't see a Kayo app appear?

    • any tips on doing it remotely? I have to plug in keyboard/mouse to manage it on mine which is a bit annoying :D

  • Yea I don't get it. The binge androidtv app works on VTV via the playstore. It's silly why Kayo is not available similarly. It's annoying sideloading.

Just a FYI kayo now officially supports the firestick. No more sideloading. Will see if it fixes the constant drops in streaming

    • Does that also mean it will allow casting to Firestick? I don't fancy having to log in at every other person's house when I need to watch the footy
