[PC, macOS, Epic] FTL: Faster Than Light $1.99 @ Epic Games

1410

This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.
Give orders to your crew, manage ship power distribution and choose weapon targets in the heat of battle.
I've personally sunk hundreds of hours into this game, at under $2 I'd consider it a must-buy

Fantastic game. Absolute bargain at that price

Still play this on most flights on my iPad to pass the time. Was hoping for a sequel with a little bit more depth or graphics, but this is still a classic and great game.

      Jealous, not on Android unfortunately.

      • You could try Steam Remote Play - depending on the game you can use the touchscreen almost natively (I think 'direct cursor' mode was the one). But the iPad version definitely has QoL features that should have been backported.

Try the Multiverse mod. Feels very much like a sequel - so much new content: units, weapons, worlds, interactions, completely new gameplay elements

      • PC only unfortunately, I found this game was much more enjoyable on an iPad, tried the PC version to use mods and it just feels so much worse to play

Have you tried Into the Breach?

This was Subset Game's latest creation and while it is fundamentally different gameplay, some core elements like planning your moves, pausing to think through your strategy have a little bit of overlap with FTL. I liked it quite a lot, even though it doesn't meet FTL's stellar levels.

People have already replied, but Multiverse mod on PC is great, as are other games like Into The Breath and Slay the Spire.

I've been tempted to get an iPad purely to play these 3 games on trips

One of the greatest PC games of all time. Gets a re-install every couple of years

one of the first freebies I got, and have actually played it for five minutes unlike nearly all the rest
    .

Highly recommend iPad version if you sit on couch next to wife a lot.

Normally wouldn't be one for iPad Games but it's very good. Probably done 1000 hours or more

    • iPad price is $9. :(

Buy it, it is a bargain.

iPad price is showing $14.99 for me.

Agree but also worth every single cent

Brilliant game, one of my favourites. Nearly perfect game, incredibly fun combat.

Worth it for the soundtrack alone, Ben Prunty ftw

Only realised he also did Subnautica: Below Zero's soundtrack after seeing him in the credits. Love his work

My steam account is nearly 20 years old, and this sits at the top of the most played list.

Has been a freebie on Epic before so some may have it in their library already. If not, it's absolutely worth it at this price.

I think I got it as a freebie and concur with other comments, great game (even though I haven't got very far).

    • It was free in 2019. Hope it'll be free again soon.

      • Lol I missed it then and I missed it now too ffs

Price history. Looks like it hits this price every other month (consistently since 2017). Might be on different platforms though.

  • Got this game in 2012 for $2.50 and I've put over 800 hours on it. It's a great time killer or game to play when waiting for mates to come online.

  • +1

I got this originally by backing it on Kickstarter (back when I was an innocent soul). One of the few games that I'm totally glad I did. Spent many hours on this one.

  • Great game and soundtrack.

  • Nice game. Played sometime back.

Subset Games' FTL: Faster Than Light and Into The Breach both remain entrenched in the top 10 of my all-time favourite games, ever since I came across FTL as an IGF 2013 awards winner and as someone who has favoured quality indie games over AAA blockbuster titles in the past decade or so.
