Anyone watched the Australian Grand Prix from a Grand Stand?

I been offered a job at the Grand Prix as a Grandstand attendant. Anyone know if I would get to see any of the race? I am a little concerned I would be stuck at the bottom of the stairs out the back checking passes.

Has anyone been to see the GP in one of the grandstands and have a good enough memory to remember if there were staff at the tops of the stairwells showing people to their seats and monitoring things (so you so you could see the race)

Yep, you'll most likely be able to watch the race. Once the race actually starts, everyone pretty much stops what they're doing, including the volunteer staff, and watches on.

Even the pass checking at grandstands becomes lax and people kind of float around to stand at the front even without seated tickets. Staff only intervene if someone's sitting in your allocated seat, else it's pretty much free for all.

Enjoy it! Fantastic atmosphere throughout the weekend!

    • Excellent, sounds hopefull

  • How did you get this job? I can’t get the ticket so might as well apply for the job.

Yes although it's much easier to watch the race at home.

Going to the track is more of a visceral experience and much harder to keep up with what's going on if you can't tune into the local FM broadcast.

  • Stands have someone at the bottom of the steps at the rear of the stand. You can't see anything from there. Sometimes they go up the ramp/steps a bit to get a view.

    • hmm that sounds less fun.

As a huge F1 fan I can tell you that the noise and atmosphere is great. But if you want to actually see the race, you will need to be in clear view of a screen. Better to go to the track for practice or qualifying, and watch it at home.

There is a screen in front of the grandstands. I have been to a GP before overseas so i know watching at home is better if you want to know exactly what is going on. I was just wondering if the job was one where I got the bonus of being able see 80% of the event while working. Or if its a min wages job standing at the bottom of the stairs checking tickets :)
