How Often Do You Cycle nbn Providers?

First time with a NBN plan and signed up to Aussiebroadband using the $50 off first month for new clients. Can't seem to find in T&C's what the cooldown period is though.

How often do you guys cycle NBN providers, and what list of providers do you work through?

    Whenever the discount ends

Mine cycle right now is Leaptel > AussieBB > Spintel > Superloop > TPG > Back now at Leaptel which has a 12m promotion, other providers were 6 months. When my 12 months is up, you bet I am going somewhere else.

AussieBB based on their CIS state "This service is month-to-month with no fixed term." and "There are no exit fees for this service." - that's why there is no cool down period, you can technically leave after you receive your first bill if the discount is there.

    • What date should you start the switching process? My bill's paid till 23 march - 23rd april

      • A few days before my billing cycle.

Each company is different, your bill cycle could be on the 1st, some mid or end of the month. But I usually churn like 2-3 days before the new billing cycle starts.

Also if you churn mid month, some companies don't prorata credit your bill, that's why I do it a few days before my billing cycle starts, I always tell the current NBN provider to cancel my NBN service 1 or 2 days before the billing cycle.

I assume your billing cycle is 23 of each month. I would churn on 20,21,22 of the month and tell your current NBN provider to cancel your NBN on 22nd.

Never, or unless the comparable price is way better somewhere else or the service drops off in some way.

    • This, don’t fix what’s not broken.
I’ve only gone from Aussie to Origin (same service) but you get a discount for having gas and electricity.

  • once a month!

  • Historically nbn have provided 6 month rebates to the RSPs to encourage new sign ups. The RSPs then offer discounted pricing to new customers for 6 months, hence all the churn.

Get 6 month discount/upfront discount from RSP, change to another once the benefit they pass through expires. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Exetel gave me an ongoing discount once my last set of stacked discounts expired (referrals + sign ups) and I'm moving house in the next couple of months so happy to save my next cycle for when I move.

Launtel - never felt the need to change!

    • If you don't mind paying a lot more $$$

Launtel is one of the top RSP's, chasing discounts can mean a drop in service quality. Launtel is also unique in that you can change speeds as much as you want when you want or even pause the service and pay nothing if you were going away for work or on holiday for instance.

I remember when they were a 3 man band. My point still stands.

@Clear: Sure, my point stands also - chasing a few dollars off can also mean a drop in service quality.

@shutuptakemymoney101: A few dollars. Certainly a lot more than a few. No service issues here with dozens of others.

@Clear: A service that doesn't work or works poorly is not worth having in my opinion - if you think a second rate internet connection is the bees knees because you save a few buck then you obviously don't have a job where you need reliable internet access.

@shutuptakemymoney101: The irony. Only up until a couple of years ago weekly outages were a big issue for Launtel and 95% uptime was pushing it. Fortunately we fixed their network. Now they're one of the best RSPs.

                  • @Clear: Certainly not my experience of Launtel, if it was I'd be gone in a shot as I need fast reliable internet. Chasing discounts isn't my main priority if it means moving to a less desirable service.

                    • @shutuptakemymoney101: You're under the assumption I'm saying Launtel are bad. I'm saying they're expensive. They're good people.

                      • @Clear: You seem to be prioritising price over quality, if service A performs better than service B but costs more then so be it.

                      • @Clear: Launtel is very aggressive to other ISP's and the first to call out flaws, I remember signing up to them then left after 7 days then had a months worth of newsletters, even when I unsubscribed…now with Leaptel which by the way has more customers than Launtel

                        • @memez: How would you know how many customers an RSP has, do you have insider knowledge?

Reads like you tried Launtel quite a while ago 'I remember', who did you settle on after trialling the Launtel service?

  • I changed only because I moved and exetel wouldn't allow me to remain on the same deal, so I said duck em. Then I went with belong.

    • you belong here

  • I had belong for past 2 years, had $5 off for a year. But they have increased $5 from Nov of same plan.

  • Can I use my partner's name with the same address with the same provider? I'm with Tangerine now and there is nothing wrong with it. Just 6-month promo is expiring in 4 days and the website does let me order with my partner's info. It's weird. Not sure what will happen then.

Launtel for the past 2 years. Unlikely to change anytime soon.

I'm liking the flexibility… and I have a easy to remember static IP reservation.
