Emirates and Qatar Price Rise?

Is it true that Emirates and Qatar prices are going up tomorrow?

The agency I'm dealing with said they are and if I paid by 4pm WA time I’m good.
Does anyone know how much it rises?

I’m not committing myself to dates or who I’m flying with just too soon only just started looking yesterday.
I thought prices was coming down not going up.

  • Don't know about cash flights, but this morning was looking at points redemption to europe on emirates (via QFF) and the surcharges are insane now, nearly $2000 in taxes/surcharges to europe one way in F with emirates.

No idea but sounds like a standard sales tactic to close the deal.

ex travel agent here and I would be wary.Flight cost vary all the time. There is what is called a ticketing time limit on every fare (for example must be ticketed within 3 days of flights being held in etc) but I am going to say sounds more of a sales tactic such as "create a sense of urgency" which is what I was taught. Do people miss out on good fares all the time because they didn't bite at the right time? Sure. Do travel agents lie like their pants are on fire. Yep.

    • Do an AMA please.

      • I've lurked on ozbargain for a while but not sure what an AMA is. I rarely use the forums, mainly just the posted bargains. I assume you mean like a question and answer or something?

  • they are always cheaper on tuesday before 10am in my experience

    • yes - then they get the dreaded ebayjack disease

  • They are probably just talking about the TTL or ticketing time limit. That's just when a specific fare quote needs to be ticketed after creating a PNR.

Prices change a lot however it's mainly based on seasonality and potential sale dates.

As someone else said, often you get told 24 hours prior because most agents arent IATA accredited and cant issue tickets directly. If they use a wholesaler it can take 24 hours. So they give you an earlier deadline so they can still meet their quoted fare.

May I ask where you are going / when you were planning on leaving perth?

    • Uk so flight to Aberdeen leaving maybe 18th/19th sept to 12 oct maybe

      • Is there a reason you're using an agency and not booking the flights yourself?

        • A lot of fares are unpublished and you wont be able to get them through the airline direct. It depends on the actual airline but I have seen massive differences. Then again for some airlines like QF it's the same or better direct.

      • This fare class seems to be primarily U class with a time limit of 24 hours, this is common with EK fares but once again these fares could be there way longer.

Your agent will see a message with 24 hours from the time of price quote. That means that the prices could go up or the fare could completely disappear. But then again it could stay there. I would do what is right for your situation. Don't feel pressured, but know that the prices can and do change.

  • It’s been a while since I booked and went on flight 2015 and a lot has changed due to covid and cost of things these days.
In regards to booking online are you best to use the likes of Skyscanner and pick what you want that suits or go direct with airline?
Are they airlines not much more expensive?

Is there such a thing as airlines charging or looking to charge extra if you get covid and need to change your flight or cancel the fee you pay them covers it? Or was this just a think an agency was asking I pay extra for them?

Is this not what flight travel insurance is about and covers or do they not cover covid, it’s not such a thing these days as was but will be if you have it and can’t board or someone in family is.

Are there more reliable booking companies to book with than others and who would you book with and why.

Having thought an agency who deals in flights etc and used back 2015 might just not be what they used to be. Telling me Qatar and emirates flight go up next day so book now.
Saying why not stop at another airport which is not where I want to finish and then providing me with what I wanted but heaps more on cost.

I don’t find the price gouging when I do search online myself or the hikes they say.
And I feel they was just after quick money and overpriced.

I not go into examples or differences but what they tried to offer and then offer the prices was a joke.

My question Is reliable companies to book with and what are the pro and cons of using vs another.
Maybe I get the right flight and cost and have it booked but I don’t want hidden cost or shit i should have taken this ir that.

I believe I have flown with Qatar cant remember much of it as was 2015 and mother was in a bad way big op and mind was not really focused on how good or bad it was.

And how is emirates compared to them?
There will be other flight company for the short trip but these might be the two mains ones as Qantas are just way overpriced yes more direct and quicker but just cost to much.

Who do you recommend for travel insurance?

the travel industry is very complicated, things change a lot and quickly and there are always exceptions to the rule. For example, usually you are best to book directly with an airline but that is not always the case. I am not in the industry anymore and I can't offer specific advice. I can give some general feedback though.

Why book directly with an airline over say a online seller like expedia or a travel agent? One reason is change fees. Each fare has what is called a fare basis (a code number that has specific fare rules, and the public generally don't get to see these rules as they are complex). An airline will have its own change fees which is normally the fare difference and a change fee on top. Should you be in a situation that you need to modify your booking you will not only pay the change fees associated with your fare type, but the reseller will add their own fees on top.

Apart from that, it is now often very difficult to get a hold of the travel agent or reseller. As your ticket has been ticketed by them the airline will often refer you back to them which could mean a real headache and delays you don't want in order to change.

Any reseller of travel can potentially be not trust worthy. Sure, do your research on places like skyscanner, but if you can get the same price or close from the actual airline then I would go to their site and book direct. I know a lot of people were caught out during the pandemic with resellers literally not responding to the clients when their flights were changed/cancelled etc.

Travel insurance, I can't give general advice. Policies vary greatly so which one is right for you depends on your circumstances. The devil is in the details or the product disclosure statement. Always be honest about any pre existing conditions. Some conditions are automatically covered.

Personally I would prefer to transit via Dubai than Doha but if there was a reasonable saving I would choose either. Not sure if you know what happened to some Australian women transitting via Doha being forced to have their privates examined but Dubai isn't exactly the leader in human rights either. As a product, I prefer Emirates over Qatar.

"Is there such a thing as airlines charging or looking to charge extra if you get covid and need to change your flight or cancel the fee you pay them covers it? Or was this just a think an agency was asking I pay extra for them?"

see above. change fees are: Fare difference (which could be huge) plus change fee which varies from airline to airline and fare to fare. A lot of Travel insurance policies won't cover covid related claims. You would need to read the PDS to see what is covered. If you do a search in the forum you will probably find threads about covid cover.

"I don’t find the price gouging when I do search online myself or the hikes they say."
this is a major red flag. I would not go back to that agent. Do your own online research, try to book directly with the airline and good luck.

PS my experience is PRE covid so I am well and truly rusty.

  • Can you use velocity points with booking with Qatar is so what can you use it towards?
I have if i remember 60,000 plus and curious what i can use it for. We are a family of 4 going to uk

    • You can book rewards seats through Virgin using Velocity but 60k points won’t go very far I’m afraid.

  • What’s the difference between economy convenience and classic.

Ok I see it’s got more kg luggage but what’s the big differences?

When I’m on classic it says about one cancelation blah blah and where are convenience says more but I’m sure on rules says different.

There is no mention of seat selection in classic where as convenience has so am I right you’re now paying more these days to pick your seats where as before it was the norm.
I’m trying to workout if it’s worth upgrading from classics.
Is there any other hidden or things I should worry about.

Do you get a better deal booking with a booking with the travel agent locally or better doing it direct.

    • More points, seat selection (which you don’t have to pay for if you have status with certain airlines), an additional fee free change and more baggage.

Book direct so that if any issues arise, you can deal direct with the airline.

      • I take airlines charge you for selecting seats now and what does it cost if you did?
Is the upgrade from really worth it as can be as much as $500 more.
Yes you get extra 5kg per person does this include kids I take kids are same weight as adults.
Obviously you get fee free changes is this certain changes im not sure it would be needed but if did you get one from the other option.

So are you telling me as you can’t pick your seats and either pay or they are giving to you a family of 4 two kids and 2 adults they would have us sitting apart?

And how do you know if there is much options to select seat’s as i believe you don’t see this until you maybe pay.

        • You don't have to select seats - you can wait until 48 hours before check in. Prices vary according to distance and quality (e.g. extra legroom v standard). Not sure there's an exemption for families though.

  • Did you end up booking?

    • Not yet

      • Just so you know there is a general fare change coming to Emirates. Your agent wouldn't have known about it back when you asked.

        Information I received today:

        Airfare Increase – effective 21MAR23

Emirates has completed a review of airfares from Australia to Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Consequently, selected airfare levels for travel to Europe, Middle East and Africa will be revised across all cabins and will be implemented for tickets issued from Tuesday 21 March 2023.

Bookings at current Emirates airfare levels must be ticketed by Monday 20 March 2023.

        • No change to air fares on 5th freedom sectors: SYDCHC v.v. and MELSIN v.v.
        • Premium Economy (PY) levels to LON and PAR from SYD/MEL/BNE are excluded.

        • I more keen on going Qatar everything about it is better for me

        • I never went with emirates but with Qatar I’m just curious the standard seats what’s best areas to select seats as plenty options for me.
I’m not going for preferred or the extra leg room as that’s extra cost.

With the area selecting the seats it’s crazy the put is family of 4 which is 2 kids 7 and coming to 11 yrs old

They have me on one seat and wife in seat front one kid in front of that and another in front of that which might be window seat does not say window seat but it’s to side.
I don’t get why they would just place us like that.
There are obviously plenty middle seats that sit four where all of us can sit together.

Is there areas in a plane should keep away from im sure I read middle row back seats are not a good option?

And as I believe i can select seats for each part of the different flight if i select seats for first and then go to next flight and maybe wanted to change the first flight choice can you select again can you change seats as many times you want if there are others you prefer to pick.

As it’s been a while on a flight you get an idea when on plane them seats look ok yes I know best ones are normally extra costs but there might be that better area for standard seats.
