Has Anyone Been Caught Selling Qantas FF Points

Has anyone been caught selling Qantas Points, what was your experience?

I have never been caught but heard some stories from Virgin FF and wanted to know the experience with Qantas.

If you do a search, there are stories. One forum member bought tons of QFF points from lots of different sellers, got busted, and all the individual sellers got busted with them.

Yeah but the original sellers are fine right because they've sold for cash and the buyer is left holding the bag.

      • Not really, they lose access to any remaining balance plus their status. Unless they totally stopped using their QFF account after that transfer they are still hit

      How many years in prison?

      • +6

Lol it's not a crime, it's just against the T&Cs of the program.

        Life sentence (flying VA)

Selling points is almost like wanting to steal a chocolate bar from Coles.

It comes down to Risk vs Reward.

What is your goal and what is the price you are willing to pay for it?

not sure why you got negged… its common sense.

      • +2

        Selling/transferring points isn't a crime.

      • +1

Because one is a literal crime and stealing from someone else for personal gain, the other is a transaction where both parties receive something and is not illegal.

The two aren't even comparable and it's not ComMoN SeNSe.

        • transaction where both parties receive something and is not illegal

Moreso a breach of the qff program tos…

Criminal is the price they charge for top up points.

      • Thank you. I guess you understood what I meant.

  • Er yep. Not selling, but buying. The first and only time I did it. They let me off because it was only 5000 points and it was the only time I'd done it. They confiscated the points but didn't nuke my account. Only bought them because I was 1000pts short for a reward seat :'(

    • Its a risk, if the person selling does the same to a number of different people it can raise a flag. Likewise the same if the person buying buys from various members.

Quite unlikely if both parties only do it once and not often, no flags to indicate trends etc

    • Ouch, unlucky to get caught on the first go. Why didn't you just suck it up and buy them from QF directly? The stupid cost I assume?

      • eh I can't remember. It was a long time ago. Probably just didn't have a lot of money at the time.
I'm pretty sure they cracked down on the seller and I got caught as a result. Surely my first points transfer for a small amount wouldn't have raised any flags on its own.

    • Sorry to hear. Did they email you right after the transaction?

  • PreCovid topic here, not seeing report recently.

There were some more in the forum.

Wow.. you can sell Qantas points 😱

    • +1

You must be new here… oh wait
How have you been here for 6.5 years and not known this?

      • +10

        Yeah..I'm really risk averse
Probably stick to crypto and random giftcard sellers 👍

  • I thought it was fine to buy & sell points!?

    • No, it was not. It may be fine now due to short staffing.

      • Some airlines its automatic.

I transferred some Amex points to a singapore airlines account and the names didn't match (1 was mine, 1 was my partners). Got an automated to call up and prove it otherwise I forfeited the points

Luckily they would let me reverse it into the correct account

    • It is in terms of being legal, in terms of the T&Cs of QFF it is not, and you stand to lose your account (and if you've started a journey, you could end up stranded, as they'll cancel your flights).

      • -1

        Wow…cancel your flights midway through…just for buying/selling points…wtf. Unbelievable!

        • It’a almost as unbelievable as people who violate companies’ T&Cs, then complain about the consequences.

  • Can anyone confirm whether buying QFF points counts towards Points Club requirement?

  • I have been caught buying and selling velocity points and everyone else with it. Lost about 600,000 points all up so i was the one that lost $$$ in the end since it happened during COVID = all flights got cancelled and refunded to my dead account. I had to refund everyone who I booked flights for.

Im very thankful I still have QFF. I stopped selling them and will use only for family.

    • sounds like it was a slippery situation.

I had my Mum transfer to myself 600k points to book 2 RTW tickets for her, myself being Platinum and her being Gold. I could request to open up any Qantas Sale Business fare into a Classic Reward Booking hence the transfer. And also how today its impossible to find any classic reward bookings for Bronze -> Gold.

It was stopped immediately, got an email to provide proof of relation. Sent my birth certificate and away I went. Don't do it, its stupid and Qantas will lock up your QFF account, heard stories on AFF with after having their QFF account nuked, they also had their Emirates and AAdvantage accounts nuked. If you have VA/Star Alliance/SkyTeam accounts I guess they would be fine, but for Qantas Partner and OW accounts, those accounts are on the line.

I wouldn't be surprised, if Qantas FF is currently monitoring this forum as we speak, as its probably the largest marketplace for Qantas Points period. Again, dont be stupid. And if you loose out on booked flights, points, money ect but more importantly you cannot stand up legally as you are directly violating Qantas Terms and Conditions.

  • probably the largest marketplace for Qantas Points period

Outside of eBay , gumtree, fbm and all the US based mile buying services…

    • It's the same buyers here, paying $0.01/point that are then reselling on those other sites for $0.02/point. Then spreading rumours here about Qantas cracking down and cancelling the points so they can keep their lucrative little system going.
I'll just leave my tinfoil hat on for a while…

    • eBay is heavily overpriced, gumtree I cant seem to find that many same with FBM.
Qantas has been cracking down on US businesses for a long time, every time it gets shuts down, a new one emerges.

  • Sold 500k points, money in my account!!!!!

    Thanks so much guys :)

  • anyone managed to unblock their account?

  • Where do people find buyers? I have quite a lot to sell. And been looking into the american sites, but the paypal fees end up around 8-10% all in.
