New to Amazon Info Help

I'm sorry but im new to amazon as im more a ebay shopper. I'm looking for a steam canner which I cant find in australia but I found it cheapest on amazon but it's still expensive. Does amazon have % off discounts sales? On certain days or months or when's the best time to buy kitchen gadgets. And it says it's intentional free shipping, is there anything I need to know about shipping?
Thanks

  • Best website to track prices on Amazon is https://camelcamelcamel.com/
You can set up alerts for when things go on sale.

Individual items might go on sale, but it’s not like eBay where they do a site wide % off sale.

    Guessing it's this one?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Aluminum-Temperature-Indicator-VIC…

That's sold by Amazon US via Amazon AU so it'll be shipped from USA.

Prices fluctuate depending on currency conversion and logistics rates. There's no set period to suggest discount aside from Prime Day and Black Friday.

You can track prices on link above which shows it's been $156 for quite a while but has been as low as $84. It's anyone's guess when or if will ever drop down again.

    • I assume this is the one as well. It may help if op confirms it.

The same item in Amazon US is around USD 60, shipping $39, GST $10 - Total is USD 108.46 - and if you pays with card that only do spot rate, it will cost AUD 162, thus buy from Amazon AU is cheaper at 151.47.

      Camel price history:
      Current $156.22 Aug 04, 2021
      Highest * $433.20 Mar 10, 2021
      Lowest * $84.09 Feb 02, 2021
      Average + $90.50

As you can see the lowest price has been a while back, however average is $90.50 - thus I assume the price can go lower than $156.22.

Camel this same item from Amazon US: Average + $61.67, Lowest * $24.74 Feb 19, 2015, at the current price, I believe you won't get any lower - the price is good at the moment.

I've also tried to calculate the use of parcel forwarding company the likes of MyUS - you will still paying more than Amazon AU $151.47.

I watched a little bit of Youtube video titled How to Make Your Own Steam Canner - at minute 3:45, the youtuber states that as long as you have the correct size pot and elevated rack, you should be able to do this without the need to buy an expensive steam canner.

  • Dumb question but does it make a difference if you buy it on Amazon AU or just Amazon.com. Its cheaper on Amazon.com or does this not include conversion and shipping rates???

Will be shown in USD, and once you put in the address it'll be subject to import / delivery costs as well

    • Dumb question but does it make a difference if you buy it on Amazon AU or just Amazon.com.

It used to be, at one point I remember import fees being included in the Amazon.com final price.
But now they do not include fees in the price and so I recently compared an identical item and the price was the same as before import fees which made buying from Amazon US via Amazon AU slightly cheaper.

      • So will you get charged extra fees after the purchase if u buy from US?

        • If you buy from Amazon.com yes there is a chance you will be charged extra fees when it arrives in Australia. They will hold the package until you pay the fees.

But if and how much you will be charged in import fees depends on many things, such as category of product. Sometimes even certain brands are hit with fees to encourage buying them in Australia.

But it was an easy choice for me, just buy from Amazon US via Amazon AU. Then it's the same price but any fees are included in the total so guaranteed you will not be hit with any extra.

    • Just make sure the electrical appliance will work on 240V if buying from the U.S.

I'd avoid buying books from amazon, they ship using padded envelopes so more often that not they arrive in horrible condition. Not worth the hassle.

    /start rant
Too many people just don't care and they continue this practice. Ironically these padded envelopes cost more than the correct cardboard mailer method. But hey, what do I know, I'm just some stupid consumer, and Amazon is super profitable so they must be right.
    /end rant

  • Steam Canner? Must be a regional dialect

  • Yes its the Roots & Branches FruitSaver Aluminum Steam Canner with Temperature Indicator, 7 Quart Jar Capacity.
But im still confused. should i buy through Amazon us? is its cheaper? it says in Amazon us "No Import Fees Deposit & $38.46 Shipping to Australia Details". would I still get a surprise import fee later?. I was trying to see if it give me another pricing in the cart, but its asking me to put in my credit card payment first, is there another page after that? or will it charge me after I put my payment details in?
