  • Any particular reason you're going such an oversized inverter? If you want extra panels later it's generally advisable to put them in now, so you can get the same make/model and avoid any headaches. It'd also cost a fortune to add an extra 2kw of panels later.

Price looks good though, I did one recently off solar quotes for a 6.6kw/5kw inverter that was about $6k before any rebates, but I spent a bit extra on a better inverter.

    • The installer was originally offering a 6kW inverter and when negotiating instead of reducing the quoted cost, he offered this upgraded inverter.

  • I would go a better inverter, mid range is good, Sungrow i would say is best bang for buck with a good warranty. I would over size your panels to your inverter. You can go 133% of your inverter capacity and I would highly recommend you do that to maximise your wattage especially during winter. For an 8kw interter try maximise the panels to 10kw+.

We paid extra for a Fronius Primo. Their Gen24 looked good but it is limited capacity on single phase, so decided to go bigger with the panels. For $1.2k extra we paid I think I woulda went with the Sungrow as a few friends have them and highly recommend them.

  • Someone who works in the industry advised me to get Fronius or SMA inverter.

    • They are both quality European inverters, though they can't compete with bang for buck with the Chinese Inverters who offer more for the money. Fronius and SMA are decent. The Chinese brands have a big presence here in Oz and one of the biggest manufacturers of inverters and panels. Though Fronius is favoured by installers inverter of choice, though it is a premium product.
