    Post from devs (March 11)

Hi, friends. We have a sort-of-update for you, which has definitely been a long time coming. We're incredibly sorry (and embarrassed, frankly) that it's taken this long but we'll get to that.

If you read our last update, you know we ran into some big hurdles and were working on solutions. Today's update is that, while we've ruled out a lot of options (which is good), we haven't been able to find that elusive answer on how best to move forward.

We're still absolutely in love with CHKN and this idea of bringing life to the creative building genre, so we're not giving up. We've made mistakes and learned a lot, and we're still hoping to overcome the hurdles but the truth is that we don't know whether we'll be able to fulfill our original 1.0 goal or if we'll need to pivot our approach entirely.

We kept hoping a solution would be right around the corner so we could update you sooner. We can't apologize enough for leaving you in limbo.

It's official: CHKN is now free! If you've ever wanted to create your own lovely abominations and survive wild creature attacks with your friends, now's your chance. Please enjoy!

      Someone's review explaining the context:

So i was someone who purchased the game almost 3 years ago when it came out, and it was a really interesting concept. Being able to make your own hybrid monstrosities is neat. Then the comment came out in 2020 saying they were struggling which made me pause but still was playing it hoping for an update. Now almost 2 1/2 years later the developers come out and basically say we are not bothering finishing the game as promised, we are going to slap a coat of paint and shove it out the door and make it free for everyone. And for those of us who did spend the money at the start what we get is a PDF of their sketches and graphics. So in summary an early access game that was abandoned almost 2 years ago gets confirmation that the devs have given up, thrown it out there for free and for the suckers that did purchase it thinking we would get a full game we get their behind the scene scraps. Another reason to be cautious about Early Access

You know what youre getting into with early access. They sound unreasonably butthurt

They don’t sound butthurt, they sound like they are relaying their experience factually.

@WingedNike: The last half does to me. This whole bit: "And for those of us who did spend the money at the start what we get is a PDF of their sketches and graphics. So in summary an early access game that was abandoned almost 2 years ago gets confirmation that the devs have given up, thrown it out there for free and for the suckers that did purchase it thinking we would get a full game we get their behind the scene scraps. "

          • @WingedNike: It's always annoying when you buy a game that goes free to play, but it's also just another business model that made Riot extremely rich back in 2009. It doesn't mean the game is abandonned necessarily.

"Early access" kinda implies that something will be coming "later". Early access to cookies is eating raw cookie dough.

@AustriaBargain: Steam basically defined early access gaming and literally warn it may never be finished our developed further. So in context, i disagree

            @AustriaBargain:

Early access to cookies is eating raw cookie dough.

And just like eating raw cookie dough, it won't necessarily turn into cookies.

Haven't get butt-burnt by Satisfactory yet.

        • Exactly. Imagine if they had invested in crypto !

      • Yep, I stopped going early access a long time ago after getting burnt once.

Nice that its free, not nice if they never delivered what was offered
