Still on an older plan with 4GB/Mo for $50/Mo

Asked for a discount and got it down to $42.50/mo

    • mate i am also on the same $50/ month old plan, but how did u get the discount can u guide me

      • @prince10 I'm on the same $50 plan, signed up on a discount at $40 a month and managed to get ongoing discounts over the years.
Currently paying $20 a month for 12 months, but usually $30.

If you've got multiple phone plans, combine them with Optus as second service gives a 10% discount. If you've been with them a while, speak to their loyalty team and see what they can do.

      • Contacted chat after the data scandle and asked retention team for a discount saying I was considering switching

        They gave 15% off

    • I was on this $50 plan (without a discount) but Optus recently forced me off it and changed me to one of their newer plans with no roaming data included.

I've been looking around for other options but nothing similar seems to exist anymore.

And icing on the cake, they did this right before I'm about to go overseas for 3 months and actually use this inclusion for the first time in 3 years…

      • Haven't been forced off yet, I've still even got a legacy data share sim for free

only applies to current plans, still 10$/day for legacy plans.

    • what does $10/day get you on legacy plans?

  • its always been $5 from what i remember about 6 months ago, it was $5/day or $35/week

  • +7

    $5 a day is rubbish

They used to include roaming in the bigger plans with 2 gb of data which was perfect for me as all I needed was to be able to make and receive phone calls while I’m over seas . I could then get a SIM card locally with better data .

But now I’m forced to get this stupid $5 a day or $35 a week which ends up being like $140 for the month i am overseas .

So forcing you to pay more is no deal for me.

I’m still on the original plan, shame they got rid of it, gave them an edge over other telcos, now no reason join over priced plans, voda is $5 a day unlimited

      • What's the original plan?

        • +2

          4gb roaming, unlimited calls zone 1, 80gb data/unlimited calls etc, $40 plan

@RogueWolf: Wow that's an awesome plan

          • +1

@RogueWolf: yeah same here. they've tried several time to make me swap to another plan. told nicely to f off

            • @gg99: How did you get them to allow you to stay on it?

They sent me an email saying we're changing your plan and removing included roaming, this will take effect from your next bill.

          • @RogueWolf: Was usually $50, it was only $40 like once

Felix mobile's roaming arrangements still seem to be the best in value and flexibility

    • +2

Felix is terrible value for calls, $20 4gig data & 100 standard international minutes of “incoming and outgoing calls”, which is useless, Main reason you have your number overseas is for the calls, if you just want data get a local sim

      • +2

Fair point, perhaps I should have emphasised the fact felix's roaming package is valid for 365 days.

So the value will depend on the user's usage and length of stay. In such light, Vodafone's $5/day roaming which allows the user's access to the local Australian plan may also be better value. I supposed the merit here is, one more option to check against one's use case scenario.

Main reason to roam overseas is to book an uber from the airport when you land.

But also if you're somewhere for less than a week or so, then it's not really worth getting a local sim.

    • Vodafone has $5 per day and it uses your home plan, ive used it on 4 overseas trips in past year.

      • These $5/day roaming are good for short trips but if you're away for a few weeks or months it becomes very expensive.

  • Good deal, but annoyed I’ve been away for 8 days and been paying the $10 per day.

I find the new plans good, the old ones including roaming allowance were more expensive and even though I am overseas 5-6 times a year, the $10 per day cost me about the same but with more data. Easier maths now on the lower rate

If you have a phone that supports eSim, download one of multiple apps and buy a plan for the country/ies you are in. Takes all of 2 minutes and lots of options.

What is this app you speak of sir

  • Have been with optus on their postpaid Choice Medium, so have the $10/day roaming.

Would like to do something to transit to the current $5/day roaming as intend to do some international travelling soon. Anyone has any experience in making this conversion and what plan to take to pay for the $53/month that i'm paying currently (plan only, no mobile). Or am i paying too much as i have not been studying mobile phone plans for a while now..

    • I ported to kogan and back to a discounted flybuys optus plan last time.
How many gb per month and how many gb needed abroad?

      • sensible! will do some homework on which optus plan to port back into in order to unlock that $5/day roaming.

i use less than 20gb monthly (although current plan allows for 100gb) as i am mostly at home (wifi) or at work (again wifi). I know it's time to downsize my plan.

in terms of abroad, would prefer at least 1gb each day as that would be when i am actually out and about, and using googlemap (alot) for directions and just discovering local point of interests (with photos etc). countries - mostly North East Asia (eg: Japan, Taiwan, Korea)
