Jetstar Seat Selection

It’s been a very long time since I flew Jetstar and have a flight coming up soon. Didn’t buy a seat.

I remember years and years ago if you didn’t choose a seat, when you checked in online, you were able to pick one without a fee. Is that still what happens?

I’m being a tight arse not wanting to pay for a seat but also don’t want to get stuck in the middle!

Surely talking to Jetstar would be your first port of call?

    • Agreed
      Apparently the OP thinks not.

"Welcome to Jetstar Customer Service. We are experiencing unusually high numbers of calls at the moment. Current wait time is XXXX minutes. We value your custom and do apologise for the delay. One of our staff will be with you as soon as hell freezes over." Cue lift music.

        • or they could've done the old fashioned thing and searched the website

literally 1 google away and less effort than posting to a forum.

When was the last time you tried to phone a low-margin business in Australia? 1990?

why not do a test run? It will tell you before proceeding to the payment.

  • Tried that but since check in hasn’t opened, I can’t test it

Tried to call but was on hold for so long, I gave up waiting

    • When you book a Jetstar flight, it asks for payment for seat selection right? based on that logic, yes it does cost you to select a seat.

Pretty sure everything on Jetstar has been monetised, so either you pay for pre-selection, or you get to compete with other tighties at boarding time for the unallocated seats (read: middle seats at the back). Can't say I have flown them, but have seen the punters jockeying pretty assertively for positions in the boarding queue.

Might be worth the $20 or whatever it is to avoid that shi# show.

      Yep, well put.

yep this is still what happens

You will still need to pay when you check in online if you pick the seats with extra leg room tho.

    • I flew to Perth a few months ago. They just randomly allocated me a middle seat at the back. Then had to pay $5 to select an aisle seat.

      Maybe different when flying internationally?

      • Thanks for your comment. I went back and double checked… I actually flew Rex ahaha I just remembered it was one of the budget airlines.

    Are you a masochist?

  • When you check in online, you will be automatically allocated a seat. If you are by yourself there is a good chance you will be automatically allocated a middle seat.

If you don't like your automatically allocated seat, you can choose other available seats and pay for the seat fee. If the flight is full and the computer has already allocated seats to everyone then there may be no other seats to choose from so you are stuck in your automatically allocated seat.
