Passport & NSW DL replacement

So, I am an Optus, AHM, and Latitude customer…
With the latest Latitude breach, I am considering replacing my NSW driving license and my passport.

I wanted to confirm with knowledable people the below:

1) Passport: my understanding is that with the replacement there would be a "freebie" so to speak; as in if I have a passport that expires in 7 years, I'd get a new, 10-year passport for free, is this correct?

2) NSW driving license: No "freebie" here, right? If I have a 10-year license with 4 years left, they're just gonna cut a license with new numbers that has a life of 4 years, correct?

Many thanks for your help.

  • You need to confirm with the company and state policies. I know Service NSW will not issue a new DL (with a new DL number) for free under any circumstances on their end, and if you do want a replacement, you have to pay the normal fees and you'll get a new DL with a new card number.

If Optus state your DL number was exposed, they will pay for a new DL, same with a passport I think….. I got the letter from Optus and they advised they will not be financial compensating any of my Government ID as my DL number wasn't exposed. But some people are getting compensated depending what information has been exposed.

Ring the companies and Service NSW cause both have different policies if you're eligible for a free replacement or compensation.
